LEXINGTON, Va. – First-year midfielder Caroline Peters (Charlotte, N.C. / Charlotte Latin School) recorded her first collegiate hat trick to propel the Washington and Lee women's soccer team past Emory & Henry, 5-1, on Wednesday afternoon at the Liberty Ruins Turf Field.
Peters scored her first goal for W&L (13-3, 9-2 ODAC) when she found the back of the net off of a cross from junior forward Tricia Jessee (Roanoke, Va. / Patrick Henry) just 10:06 into the match. She netted the game-winner unassisted and then scored off of a pass from senior midfielder Erin Harvey (Mission Hills, Kan. / Pembroke Hill). Harvey went on to find the back of the net in the 44th minute off of an assist from first-year midfielder Liz Todd (Oldwick, N.J. / Gill St. Bernard's School), and the Blue and White took a 4-1 lead into halftime.
Sophomore midfielder Caroline Hahn (Richmond, Va. / Douglas Freeman) registered W&L's fifth goal of the contest at the 61:09 mark off of a Jessee assist to reach the final margin.
For the game, the Generals outshot the Wasps, 30-2, and held an 11-0 advantage in corner kicks.
Senior Addie Healy (Waterford, Va. / Woodgrove) and first-year Maggie Nolan (Flanders, N.J. / Mount Olive) split time in goal for W&L, with Healy collecting one save. Sophomore keeper Kayla Wright (Franklin County, Va. / Franklin County) suffered the loss for E&H, playing all 90 minutes of action and stopping 11 shots.
