ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – First-year midfielder Caroline Peters (Charlotte, N.C. / Charlotte Latin School) scored 7:30 into overtime to lead the Washington and Lee women's soccer team past Elizabethtown, 2-1, at Ira R. Herr Field on Sunday afternoon.
Peters scored the game-winning goal for W&L (5-1) off of a cross from junior forward Tricia Jessee (Roanoke, Va. / Patrick Henry) in the 98th-minute.
Elizabethtown (3-3-1) got on the board just 52 seconds into the contest when senior midfielder Kacey Cerankowski tallied the first goal off of an assist from senior forward Lauren Berry. The Blue Jays took a 1-0 lead into intermission.
Junior midfielder Hollis Tardy (Dallas, Texas / The Hockaday School) netted the equalizer in the second half on a rebound off a saved penalty kick by senior keeper Dana Robidoux at the 68:13 mark. The game remained tied until Peters scored the Blue and White's second goal in overtime to reach the final margin.
For the game, W&L held a 16-8 advantage in shots and a 5-4 edge in corner kicks.
First-year goalie Maggie Nolan (Flanders, N.J. / Mount Olive) played the entire contest in net for the Generals and stopped one shot. Robidoux suffered the loss for the Blue Jays, also playing all 97:30 and making four saves.
W&L returns to action on Wednesday when it travels to Bridgewater for a 4:00 pm contest.
