LEXINGTON, Va. – The Washington and Lee women's soccer team picked up its fourth non-conference win of the season with a 2-0 victory over the Southern Virginia Knights Tuesday afternoon at Watt Field.
With the victory, W&L improved to 5-1 (1-0 ODAC) on the season and SVU fell to 1-4 overall.
Junior defender Lauren Abraham (Richmond, Va./Mills E. Godwin) led the generals with four shots on goal and one goal. Abraham's goal came just under four minutes into the game at the 3:11 mark, allowing W&L to take an early 1-0 lead. The Knights' junior keeper Mackenzie Cox (Alpine, Utah/Lone Peak) stopped seven Generals' shots the rest of the half.
At the 66:21 mark in the second half, junior forward KJ Lancaster (Atlanta, Ga./Atlanta International) added the insurance goal off a Camille LeJeune (Lafayette, La./Episcopal School of Acadiana) assist and gave W&L its final 2-0 score.
The Generals held an advantage over the Knights in both total shots and corner kicks, earning a 22-5 lead in shots and an 8-0 edge in corner kicks.
In goal for the Blue and White was sophomore Addie Healy (Waterford, Va./Woodgrove), who registered two saves and no goals-against while spending 90:00 in the game.
Cox collected 10 total saves and two goals-against while protecting the net the entire game for the Knights.
W&L returns to action on Saturday when it hosts Randolph-Macon for a 2:00 pm contest.
