LEXINGTON, Va. — The Washington and Lee men's and women's soccer teams and the field hockey team all qualified for their respective Old Dominion Athletic Conference Tournaments, which start on Saturday, October 27.
The women's soccer team is the two seed in its bracket, after finishing 14-2-1 in the regular season and 10-1-1 in the ODAC. Sophomore forward Katherine Rush (Cornelius, N.C./Providence Day School) leads the team with 13 goals and four assists. The squad hosts seventh-seeded Shenandoah (8-10-1, 6-5-1 ODAC) on Saturday at 12 pm. In the previous meeting this year, the Generals earned a 3-1 road victory on October 10. The winner of the game will play on Wednesday, October 31, against the winner of the Randolph-Macon-Lynchburg game.
The men's soccer team enters Saturday's quarterfinal as the two seed. W&L went 10-4-2 overall and 7-2-2 in the conference during the regular season. Sophomore midfielder Zach Colby (Prairie Village, Kan./Shawnee Mission East) has 13 goals and one assist to lead the Generals. The Blue & White hosts seventh-seeded Bridgewater (10-7-0, 6-5-0 ODAC) on Saturday at 3 pm. It will be the second time the Eagles have made the trek to Lexington this year, after losing to the Generals on September 29, 3-0. The winner of the game will play on Wednesday, October 31, against the winner of the Virginia Wesleyan-Lynchburg game.
The field hockey team returns to the ODAC Tournament as the four seed after failing to qualify in 2011. The Generals ended the 2012 regular season 6-11 overall and 4-4 in the ODAC. First-year forward Claire Townsley (St. Louis, Mo./MICDS) leads W&L with four goals and three assists. The Generals host fifth-seeded Shenandoah (10-7, 4-4 ODAC) on Saturday at 1 pm. W&L defeated the Hornets earlier this season at home, 3-2, in overtime on October 9. The winner of the game will take on top-seeded Lynchburg on Tuesday, October 30.
