WINCHESTER, Va. – The Washington and Lee women's soccer team jumped out to a 2-0 first-half lead and cruised to a 3-1 win over Shenandoah on Wednesday evening on Sprint Field at Shentel Stadium.
The Generals (10-2-1, 7-1-1) opened the scoring in the 19th minute as sophomore midfielder Emily Scott (Port Murray, N.J./West Morris Central) scored off a feed from first-year midfielder Erin Harvey (Mission Hills, Kan./Pembroke Hill) for a 1-0 lead.
The lead swelled to 2-0 just 3:02 before the half when senior midfielder Ainsley Daigle (Lafayette, La./Episcopal School of Acadiana) scored unassisted at the 41:58 mark.
Sophomore forward Katie Rossi (Wyoming, Del./Caesar Rodney) stretched the lead to 3-0 when she scored unassisted at 63:46 and Shenandoah (5-9-1, 3-4-1) capped the scoring when first-year defender Ellen Storm scored unassisted in the 81st minute.
Washington and Lee held an advantages of 14-7 in shots and 5-2 in corner kicks.
First-year Addie Healy (Waterford, Va./Woodgrove) spent the entire game in goal for the Blue and White, collecting one save with one goal-against.
First-year Nicole Pratt and junior Nicole Gilbertson both played in goal for the Hornets. Pratt was saddled with the loss after allowing all three goals without a save. Gilbertson spelled her for the final 20:46 and made three saves.
W&L returns to action on Saturday, when it hosts St. Mary's of Maryland for a 3:30 pm contest.
