W&L Women's Soccer Shuts Down Eastern Mennonite, 9-0

LEXINGTON, Va. – Washington and Lee sophomore forward Katherine Rush (Cornelius, N.C./Providence Day School) recorded a hat trick to lead the Generals' women's soccer team to a 9-0 win over Eastern Mennonite on Saturday afternoon at Watt Field.

Rush notched the contest's first goal with an eight-yard shot in the 36th minute to bring the score to 1-0. Her second score came at the 40:26 mark after EMU first-year goalkeeper Becca Borg (Gig Harbor, Wash./Peninsula) dropped the ball after a save. The ball landed in the feet of Rush in front of the goal, allowing her next shot to land in the right side of the net (2-0). At 53:38, Rush received a pass from sophomore midfielder Haley Ward (Federal Way, Wash./Federal Way) and found a hole in the Royals' defense, leading to her third goal of the day.

With Rush's two tallies in the first half, the score was 2-0 going into halftime. In the second half, six different Generals registered a goal. First-year midfielder Mary Woodruff Griffin (Chattanooga, Tenn./Girls Preparatory) netted her first goal as a General with the game time at 78:07. Sophomore forward KJ Lancaster (Atlanta, Ga./Atlanta International) scored two goals, both in the 86th minute.

Sophomore midfielder Emily Scott (Port Murray, N.J./West Morris Central), junior midfielder Alexis Blight (Columbia, Md./McDonough) and junior forward Jasmine Soo (Charleston, W.Va./Culver Academies) each recorded a goal in the game.

With the win, W&L improves to 8-2-1 on the season (6-1-1 ODAC), while the Royals fall to 3-8-1 (0-6-1 ODAC) overall.

In goal for the Blue and White was junior Kingsley Schroeder (Dayton, Ohio/Westminster School), who stopped three shots and collected the shutout.

Borg and junior Jenni Beck (Archbold, Ohio/Archbold) split time in net for EMU. In the first 45:00, Borg tallied nine saves and two goals-against, and Beck registered four saves and seven goals-against in the final 45:00.

The Generals return to action on Sunday, when they host Greensboro for a 1:00 pm contest.
