W&L Wrestling Bests Southern Virginia, 38-18

BUENA VISTA, Va. – The Washington and Lee wrestling team evened its season record at 2-2 with a 38-18 win over Southern Virginia on Thursday evening at the Knights Sports Arena.

After falling behind 12-6 early with a pair of forfeit losses, the Generals rebounded to win six of the seven contested matches to pull away for the 20-point win.

Sophomore Bennett Lewis (St. Louis, Mo. / Westminster Christian) and first-years Zachary Papin (Carrollton, Texas / St. Mark's), George Matelich (Larchmont, N.Y. / Rye Country Day) and Matt Kaminer (Hewlett, N.Y. / George W. Hewlett) all recorded wins by fall, while junior Ron Tassoni (Media, Pa. / Haverford School) and first-year Brandon Lefore (Morgan Hill, Calif. / Ann Sobrato) both notched major decisions.

The Generals return to action on Saturday when they host Ferrum and King's (Pa.) for a tri-match at 11:00 am.
