FERRUM, Va. – The Washington and Lee wrestling team dropped a 33-15 decision to Ferrum College on Wednesday evening at Swartz Gym.
The Generals (0-1) fell behind 18-0 early after forfeiting matches at 125 pounds, 133 pounds and 141 pounds. W&L then suffered losses by fall in the first two contested matches, before posting wins in four of the final five bouts. However, the Generals just couldn't climb out of the early 30-0 hole.
First-year Mac Evarts (Millersville, Pa. / Penn Manor) notched W&L's first win of the evening with a 9-5 decision over Jordan Felion at 165 pounds. Sophomore Ron Tassoni (Media, Pa. / Haverford School) followed with a 7-3 win over Thomas Smith at 174 pounds, while sophomore Zac Richey (Swoope, Va. / Buffalo Gap) fell 10-5 to Corbin Ramos at 184 pounds. First-year 197-pounder Bennett Lewis (St. Louis, Mo. / Westminster Christian) improved to 5-1 on the season with a win by disqualification over Darreus McCrea, and sophomore Grant Cokeley (Charleston, W.Va. / George Washington) notched a 3-1 overtime decision over Tate Dulany.
Washington and Lee returns to action on Saturday when it hosts Manchester for a 7:30 pm match.
