W&L Wrestling Picked Eighth in Centennial Preseason Poll
LANCASTER, Pa. – The Centennial Conference released its 2012-13 wrestling coaches preseason poll on Wednesday and Washington and Lee was picked to finish eighth out of the nine wrestling institutions.
Ursinus College, the 2012 Centennial runner-up, was picked to win the league with 59 points and four first-place votes. Johns Hopkins, last season's league champion, finished second in the voting after also receiving four first-place votes and 56 points. Stevens was third with 53 points and was followed by the Merchant Marine Academy (36), Gettysburg (33), McDaniel (33), NYU (31), W&L (13) and Muhlenberg (10).
The Generals return just six letterwinners from last year's team, which finished 3-18 overall and 1-7 in conference action. However, W&L added six first-years to the squad this winter and will field a wrestler in all 10 weight classes for the first time in four years.
Junior captains Dan Igel (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. / Bolles School) and H.T. Kotchinian (Lowell, Mass. / Belmont Hill) will lead the way as two-year letterwinners, while sophomore Conor Duffey (Boxford, Mass. / Brooks School) also returns after notching a 23-10 record during his rookie season.
