W&L WOMEN'S LAX FALLS TO SALISBURY IN NCAA'S, 10-7 (5/12)

SALISBURY, Md. -- Second-ranked Salisbury used a three-goal spurt in the second half to break a 6-6 tie en route to a 10-7 victory over 20th-ranked Washington and Lee in the NCAA Women's Lacrosse Tournament on Saturday morning in Salisbury, Md.

The Seagulls opened the scoring as Ani Khatchatoorian found the net off an assist from Sue Ackerman just 1:46 into the game. However, the Generals scored the game's next three goals, including a goal and an assist from sophomore attacker Kelsi Robinson (West Chester, Pa./Westtown), for a 3-1 lead with 20:03 left in the opening period.

Stephanie Shores then ignited a four-goal spurt for SU at the 18:18 mark when she scored unassisted. W&L junior goalkeeper Sarah Tilbor (West Simsbury, Conn./Simsbury) was then assessed a yellow card at 16:20, forcing her to leave the field and give way to sophomore Ali Hillyard (Media, Pa./Episcopal) for three minutes. The Seagulls scored two goals during that stretch and another upon Tilbor's return to assume a 5-3 lead with 11:10 left in the contest. The Generals rebounded to score the final two goals of the half, including a goal and one assist from junior midfielder Megan Slosson (Cockeysville, Md./Maryvale Prep), to knot the score at 5-5 heading into the break.

The two teams exchanged goals in the opening 7:20 of the second stanza to make the score 6-6, but a Stephanie Shores goal and two tallies by Natalie Degele gave Salisbury a 9-6 advantage with 19:42 remaining. W&L sliced into the lead when Slosson scored unassisted at the 15:38 mark, but the Generals could not find the net again and the Seagulls added one more for good measure in advancing to the final eight of the tournament.

Slosson led the Generals with two goals and one assist, while Robinson and senior attacker Avery Lovejoy (Old Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich) posted one goal and one assist. Tilbor played 56:30 in goal, making 13 saves on the day.

Ackerman paced the Seagulls with two goals and three assists. Degele had three goals and Shores added two goals and one assist. Sonja Stuart played all 60 minutes in goal for SU, posting seven saves.

The loss ended Washington and Lee's season at 15-4 overall. Salisbury (19-1) advances to face either Nazareth or Colorado College for the right to play in the NCAA Final Four held in Geneva, N.Y.

W&L WOMEN'S LACROSSE TOPS WOOSTER, 14-4, IN FIRST ROUND OF NCAA'S (5/9)

LEXINGTON, Va. – Sophomore midfielder Colleen Evans (Lexington, Va./Rockbridge County) registered four goals and senior midfielder Kelly Evans (Lexington, Va./Rockbridge County) recorded two goals and three helpers as 20th-ranked Washington and Lee downed the College of Wooster, 14-4, in the first round of the 2007 Division III Women's Lacrosse Tournament on Wednesday afternoon at Watt Field.

The Generals (15-3) jumped out to a 4-0 lead at 22:50 in the first half on the strength of two goals from Kelly Evans and another from Colleen Evans, but Wooster responded with two-straight tallies to cut W&L advantage to 4-2 with 15:15 remaining in the initial stanza. However, W&L closed out the first half with five-unanswered scores, which included two goals from Colleen Evans, to take an 8-2 lead into halftime. Despite the Fighting Scots finding the back of the net first in the second half off a free-position shot from sophomore midfielder Hillary Darragh (Evanston, Ill./Evanston Twp.) at 25:17, the Generals notched the next six goals as they cruised to the 14-4 final margin.

Senior attacker Karina Schless (Old Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich) had two goals and one assist, while senior attacker Mallory Lobisser (Bainbridge Island, Wash./Lakeside) tallied a pair of goals. Sophomore attacker Kelsi Robinson (West Chester, Pa./Westtown) registered one goal and one assist and junior midfielder Megan Slosson (Cockeysville, Md./Maryvale Prep) and senior midfielder Maggie Megear (Cold Spring Harbor, N.Y./Cold Spring Harbor) each added two assists. Junior goalkeeper Sarah Tilbor (West Simsbury, Conn./Simsbury) played the first 42:31 in goal for the Generals and made five saves before sophomore Ali Hillyard (Media, Pa./Episcopal) relieved her for the final 17:29 of the contest. Hillyard made one save.

Darragh, junior attacker Emily Baab (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit) and sophomore attackers Taryn Higgins (Marblehead, Mass.) and Carly Carey (Cummington, Mass./Academy at Charlemont) tallied one goal apiece for Wooster, while sophomore goalkeeper Jamie Dannenberg (Framingham, Mass./Framingham) played all 60 minutes between the pipes and recorded seven saves.

The Generals now advance the NCAA Regionals for the second-straight season and will take on host and second-ranked Salisbury at 11:30 am on Saturday.

W&L WOMEN'S LACROSSE WINS FIFTH-STRAIGHT ODAC TITLE WITH 10-4 VICTORY OVER ROANOKE (4/29)

LEXINGTON, Va. –Junior midfielder Megan Slosson (Cockeysville, Md./Maryvale Prep) recorded five goals and junior goalkeeper Sarah Tilbor (West Simsbury, Conn./Simsbury) registered a season-high 13 saves as top-seeded and 20th-ranked Washington and Lee won its fifth-straight ODAC Championship with a 10-4 victory over third-seeded Roanoke in the finals of the ODAC Women's Lacrosse Tournament on Sunday afternoon at Watt Field.

The game was scoreless until 16:30 of the first half when sophomore midfielder Colleen Evans (Lexington, Va./Rockbridge County) gave the Generals a 1-0 lead, but the Maroons quickly tied the score with an unassisted tally from junior attacker Amanda Hutchins (Guilford, Conn./Guilford) at 14:54. W&L would then net two-straight goals, including one from Slosson, taking a 3-1 lead with 5:28 to play in the initial half. RC responded with a run of its own as Hutchins scored at the 4:25 mark and freshman attacker Brooks Laufman (Annapolis, Md./Severn) knotted the game with her unassisted goal at 3:09, but the Generals closed out the half with a goal from both Evans and Slosson to take a 5-3 lead into the break.

W&L opened the second half with three-straight scores, including two from Slosson and one from Evans, to own a 8-3 lead with 14:16 to play in the contest. Freshman midfielder Paige Mason (Orangeville, Ont./Orangeville) made good on a free position shot with 10:11 remaining to cut the W&L lead to 8-4, but the Blue and White closed the game with two unanswered goals to capture the ODAC crown.

Slosson was joined by Tilbor, Evans, senior midfielder Mallory Lobisser (Bainbridge Island, Wash./Lakeside) and junior defender Kat Michaels (Virginia Beach, Va./Norfolk Academy) on the All-Tournament Team. Evans recorded three goals, while Lobisser had a single tally. Junior attacker Laura Henson (Atlanta, Ga./Westminster) notched one goal and one assist, while senior attacker Avery Lovejoy (Old Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich) added two helpers.

Roanoke (14-3) placed Hutchins, freshman defender Alida Haslett (Bryn Mawr, Pa./Radnor) and sophomore goalkeeper Katlyn Scarlett (Reisterstown, Md./St. Paul's School of Girls) on the All-Tournament Team. Hutchins led RC with two goals, while Scarlett stopped nine shots.

Lynchburg and Randolph-Macon also had players honored on the All-Tournament Team for competing in the semifinals. Junior attacker Nichole Locher (Yorktown Heights, N.Y./Yorktown) and senior defender Nichole Johnson (Yorktown Heights, N.Y./Yorktown) were the selections for LC, while senior midfielders Lizzy Spero (Phoenix, Md./John Carroll) and Traci Phipps (Annapolis, Md./Annapolis) were the picks from R-MC.

The Generals (14-3) receive the ODAC's automatic bid to the 2007 NCAA Division III Tournament and await their opponent, which will be announced on Sun., May 6.

W&L WOMEN'S LACROSSE DOWNS LYNCHBURG, 21-4, IN ODAC TOURNAMENT SEMIFINALS (4/28)

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Top-seeded and 20th-ranked Washington and Lee jumped out to a 16-3 halftime lead and cruised to a 21-4 victory over fifth-seeded Lynchburg in the semifinals of the ODAC Women's Lacrosse Tournament on Saturday afternoon at Watt Field.

The Hornets (8-10) scored first when freshman midfielder Kathryn Ollice (West Chester, Pa./West Chester) found the net unassisted just 1:25 into the game. However, the Generals (13-3) went on to score the game's next nine goals, including three from senior attacker Avery Lovejoy (Old Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich) and two each from sophomore midfielder Colleen Evans (Lexington, Va./Rockbridge County) and junior midfielder Megan Slosson (Cockeysville, Md./Maryvale Prep) for a 9-1 lead at the 17:05 mark of the first half.

Lynchburg responded with unassisted goals by junior attacker Nichole Locher (Yorktown Heights, N.Y./Yorktown) and sophomore attacker Deana Welsch (Yorktown Heights, N.Y./Yorktown) to cut the margin to 9-3 with 11:47 left in the opening 30 minutes, but the Generals closed the half with a seven-goal flurry and never looked back.

Slosson paced the W&L offense with five goals, while sophomore attacker Kelsi Robinson (West Chester, Pa./Westtown) notched three goals and two assists. Evans, Lovejoy and freshman attacker Britten Mathews (Richmond, Va./Collegiate) all added three goals and one assist. Junior Sarah Tilbor (West Simsbury, Conn./Simsbury) and sophomore Ali Hillyard (Media, Pa./Episcopal) split time in goal, combining to make four saves.

Locher led the Hornets with two goals, while senior Ji-Young Eun (Fairfax, Va./W.T. Woodson) notched eight saves in goal.

The Generals will now play the winner of the second semifinal between Randolph-Macon and Roanoke in Sunday's championship game at 2:00 pm.

W&L WOMEN'S LAX TOPS VIRGINIA WESLEYAN, 15-6 (4/21)

LEXINGTON, Va. – Sophomore attacker Kelsi Robinson (West Chester, Pa./Westtown) scored four goals as the Washington and Lee women's lacrosse team concluded its regular season with a 16-5 win over Virginia Wesleyan on Saturday afternoon at Watt Field.

The Generals, who notched a 8-0 ODAC mark for the third-straight season, jumped out to a five-goal lead with 9:12 to play in the first half on the strength of two goals by Robinson. The Marlins (7-9, 5-3) found the back of the net when junior midfielder Jillian Boyd (Warrenton, Va./Fauquier) scored at 6:42 in the first stanza, but W&L scored five of the next six goals to take a 10-2 lead into halftime.

Boyd scored just 25 seconds into the second half, cutting the score to 10-3, but two-consecutive goals from senior midfielder Mallory Lobisser (Bainbridge Island, Wash./Lakeside) upped the W&L lead to 12-3 and the Generals never looked back as they improved to 12-3 overall.

Robinson's outing was complemented by sophomore attacker Katie Flippen's (Norfolk, Va./Norfolk Academy) two goals and one assist. Lobisser and junior attacker Laura Henson (Atlanta, Ga./Westminster) each added a pair of goals, while senior attacker Avery Lovejoy (Old Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich) and freshman attacker Britten Mathews (Richmond, Va./Collegiate) both registered two assists.

Junior Sarah Tilbor (West Simsbury, Conn./Simsbury) played the initial 37:55 in goal for W&L, stopping six shots. Sophomore Ali Hillyard (Media, Pa./Episcopal) relieved Tilbor for the final 22:05 and notched one save.

Boyd tallied four goals for the Marlins, while sophomore midfielder Kasey Marchwicki (Boyds, Md./Poolesville) added one tally. Sophomore goalkeeper Ashley Sippel (Leesburg, Va./Ashburn) played the duration between the pipes and recorded 12 saves.

The Generals have clinched the top-seed and home-field advantage in the 2007 ODAC Tournament and will have a bye in the first round. Washington and Lee will host the semifinals on Saturday at Watt Field. The game times have yet to be determined.

W&L WOMEN'S LAX POSTS 15-6 WIN OVER LYNCHBURG (4/19)

LYNCHBURG, Va. – Sophomore attacker Kelsi Robinson (West Chester, Pa./Westtown) and junior midfielder Megan Slosson (Cockeysville, Md./Maryvale Prep) each tallied three goals and two assists to propel the 20th-ranked Washington and Lee women's lacrosse team to a 15-6 ODAC victory over Lynchburg on Thursday evening at Shellenberger Field.

Robinson scored two first-half goals and assisted on two other tallies as the Generals (11-3, 7-0) took a 9-1 advantage into halftime. W&L extended its lead to 11-1 with 27:00 to play in the contest, but three-straight scores by LC, including two by Kathryn Ollice, cut the Generals' lead to 11-4 with 19:44 left. However, W&L responded, scoring four out of the ensuing six goals to pull away for the 15-6 final margin.

Robinson and Slosson were complimented by sophomore midfielder Colleen Evans (Lexington, Va. Rockbridge County), who recorded three goals and one assist and senior midfielder Kelly Evans' (Lexington, Va./Rockbridge County) four helpers. LC (7-8, 4-4) was paced by Ollice, Deana Welsch and Nichole Locher, who each scored a pair of goals. Sarah Rahl notched two assists, while Ji-Young Eun played the duration of the game in between the pipes and recorded 18 saves.

The Generals return to action on Saturday when they take on Virginia Wesleyan at 1:00 pm at Watt Field.

CATHOLIC REGISTERS 11-10 DOUBLE-OVERTIME WIN OVER W&L WOMEN'S LAX (3/31)

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Catholic midfielder Kate Robinson scored the game-winning goal with just 31 second remaining in the second overtime period as the Cardinals defeated 11th-ranked Washington and Lee, 11-10, in women's lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon in Washington, D.C.

The Cardinals (7-3) took a 7-4 first-half lead on the strength of two goals by Robinson, but the Generals responded, scoring three of the first four goals in the second half to cut CUA's advantage to 8-7 with 16:12 remaining. Catholic midfielder Katie Bitonti upped the lead to 9-7 as she made good on a free position shot at the 12:32 mark, however, W&L responded with two goals to tie the contest with 10:56 to play. Catholic then would find the back of the net again as Robinson scored with 8:06 left, but sophomore midfielder Colleen Evans (Lexington, Va./Rockbridge County) registered the game-tying goal just 1:31 later to send the game to extra sessions and set up Robinson's heroics.

The Generals (7-3) were led by Evans, who tallied four goals and junior midfielder Megan Slosson's (Cockeysville, Md./Maryvale Prep) trio of scores. Sophomore attacker Kelsi Robinson (West Chester, Pa./Westtown) added two goal and a pair of assists. Junior Sarah Tilbor (West Simsbury, Conn./Simsbury) and sophomore Ali Hillyard (Media, Pa./Episcopal) split the game in goal. Tilbor made nine saves, while Hillyard posted six stops.

Robinson led Catholic with four goals, while Bitonti notched three goals and one assist. Melissa Brashear played the entire contest in between the pipes and racked up eight saves.

W&L (7-2) led 9-0 at halftime and never looked back as it cruised to the 18-1 victory. W&L WOMEN'S LAX DROPS HEARTBREAKER TO MARY WASHINGTON, 7-6 (3/18)

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- The 11th-ranked Mary Washington women's lacrosse team scored the final three goals of the game, including the game-winner with 36 seconds remaining, to defeat ninth-ranked Washington and Lee, 7-6, on Sunday afternoon.

The Eagles (6-1) used a three-goal spurt over the final 13:59 of the first half to assume a 4-2 lead at the break. However, the Generals (5-2) scored the first four goals of the second half to take a 6-4 lead with 9:48 remaining in the game.

Mary Washington began its comeback with 4:12 remaining on an unassisted tally by junior midfielder Margaret Murray and tied the game with 3:35 left on an unassisted goal by junior attacker Caitlin Erickson. Erickson then scored the game-winner to give the Eagles their fourth-straight victory.

Franklin & Marshall (3-0) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the opening 1:07 of the contest, but the Generals (4-1) responded with five unanswered goals to own a 5-2 advantage with 10:34 to play in the first half. F&M used a two-straight goals, including one from Bevington, to cut the lead to 5-4 just 3:11 later, and trailed by one goal (6-5) at the half.

Washington and Lee struck first in the second half as senior midfielder Mallory Lobisser's (Bainbridge Island, Wash./Lakeside) score gave the Generals a two-goal lead (7-5) with 25:08 to play in the contest, but the Diplomats reeled off four-straight goals to assume a 9-7 lead with 12:46 left in the game. A trio of goals by Evans helped the Generals take a 7-2 lead at the break, but the Yellow Jackets rallied in the second half, scoring four of the first six goals, including a pair by freshman midfielder Kelly Cramer (Charlottesville, Va./Albemarle) to cut the Generals' lead to 9-6 with 10:54 to play in the contest. However, W&L went on to score the next three goals en route to the 13-7 final.

Roanoke's Amanda Hutchins registered the first score of the contest at 28:54, but the Generals responded with five-straight goals, including two from Robinson, en route to taking a 5-2 lead into the half.

The Maroons (0-1, 0-1) rallied to cut the Generals' lead to 6-4 with 17:33 remaining in the contest, but the Blue and White closed the game with five unanswered scores to cruise to the 11-4 final.

The Generals (2-0) took an early 2-0 lead just 3:16 into the first half, but the Seahawks rallied back to tie it at 2-2 (15:05) and carried a 6-4 lead into the break.

W&L cut into St. Mary's advantage just 22 seconds into the second half as senior midfielder Maggie Megear (Cold Spring Harbor, N.Y./Cold Spring Harbor) scored unassisted, but SMC sophomore midfielder Lauren Carrier (Crownsville, Md./Olde Mill) found the back of the net to up the lead to 7-5 with 21:19 to play in the contest. However, the Blue and White responded with five unanswered goals over the next 8:41 to take a 10-7 lead with 11:56 left in the game. The Seahawks scored twice to slice the Generals' advantage to 10-9, but Evans scored again at 5:55 for an 11-9 lead. Carrier's goal at 3:38 wasn't enough and W&L held on for the 11-10 final.

The Generals jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the first 9:53 of the contest en route to a 9-0 halftime advantage. In the second stanza, the Generals scored the first five goals and led 14-0 with 16:00 minutes remaining in the contest. The Crusaders notched their lone goal of the game with 9:25 to play, but W&L closed out the contest with three more goals for the 17-1 final margin.
