W&L WOMEN'S LACROSSE FALLS TO TCNJ IN NCAA SECOND ROUND GAME, 16-6

SALISBURY, Md. -- Seniors Bridget Bigley and Lauren Dougher tallied a combined 12 goals and four assists to lead fourth-ranked The College of New Jersey to a 16-6 victory over 10th-ranked Washington and Lee in the second round of the NCAA Division III Women's Lacrosse Championships hosted by Salisbury University.

TCNJ (12-2) jumped out to a 2-0 lead just 2:56 into the game on unassisted tallies by sophomores Toni-Ann Cavallo and Karen Doane, but the Generals responded with a goal by sophomore midfielder Megan Slosson (Cockeysville, Md./Maryvale Prep) off a feed from senior attacker Amanda Strickler (Lexington, Va./Rockbridge County) to cut the lead to 2-1 just 36 seconds after Doane's tally.

Dougher stretched the Lions' lead to 3-1 with a goal off a feed from Bigley at the 17:25 mark and Bigley then made it 4-1 with a free-position goal at the 11:53 mark. Slosson scored off a free-position shot at the 8:54 mark to pull the Generals within 4-2, but Bigley scored again on a free-position shot with 45 seconds left to give TCNJ a 5-2 lead at the break.

The Lions started the second half with three straight tallies, including a pair by Bigley, to stretch to an 8-2 lead with 22:39 left in the game. Junior midfielder Kelly Evans (Lexington, Va./Rockbridge County) scored off a feed from Strickler at 21:34 to pull within 8-3, but the Lions strung together three more multi-goal runs en route to the 10-goal victory.

Slosson and freshman attacker Kelsi Robinson (West Chester, Pa./Westtown) each scored a pair of goals for W&L, while Strickler had two assists. Sophomore Sarah Tilbor (West Simsbury, Conn./Simsbury) and freshman Ali Hillyard (Media, Pa./Episcopal) combined to make eight saves in goal.

Bigley finished with six goals and three assists, while Dougher posted six goals and one assist for the Lions. Senior Megan Marquardt notched six saves in goal.

TCNJ will now face Salisbury University on Sunday in the NCAA Quarterfinals. Washington and Lee completes its' season with a 16-4 overall mark, setting a new program record for victories.

W&L WOMEN'S LACROSSE DEFEATS CHRISTOPHER NEWPORT, 19-9, IN FIRST ROUND OF NCAA TOURNAMENT

LEXINGTON, Va. – The 10th-ranked Washington and Lee women's lacrosse team produced six-goal runs in both the first and second halves en route to a 19-9 victory over Christopher Newport in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Wednesday afternoon at Watt Field. With the win, the Generals improved to 16-3, setting a new school record for victories.

The Lady Captains (11-8) jumped out to a 3-0 lead just 5:27 into the game on unassisted goals by freshman attacker Shayna Sargent (Woodbridge, Va./Osbourn Park), junior midfielder Kristyn Hankins (Charlottesville, Va./Albemarle) and junior attacker Kristen Conques (Fairfax, Va./Paul VI). The Generals responded with three consecutive goals, including a pair by senior attacker Kate Lester (Wilmington, Del./Friends) in a span of 19 seconds, to even the score at 3-3 with 21:28 remaining in the half. CNU then notched consecutive tallies by Conques and Hankins to retake the advantage at 5-3 with 12:13 left, but W&L retaliated with six consecutive goals to carry a 9-5 edge into halftime. Junior midfielder Kelly Evans (Lexington, Va./Rockbridge County) notched two goals, while senior attacker Amanda Strickler (Lexington, Va./Rockbridge County) had one goal and two assists during the spurt.

The Lady Captains opened the second stanza with two straight goals to pull within 9-7 with 20:17 remaining, but the Generals went on another six-goal run to open up a 15-7 lead at the 12:29 mark en route to the 19-9 win.

Strickler finished with a career-high tying seven points on three goals and four assists, while Lester and Evans each tallied three goals. Freshman attacker Kelsi Robinson (West Chester, Pa./Westtown) added two goals and two assists, while senior midfielder Louisa Feve (Bethesda, Md./Winston Churchill) notched two goals and one helper. Sophomore goalkeeper Sarah Tilbor (West Simsbury, Conn./Simsbury) played all 60 minutes and made a season-high 13 saves.

For CNU, Conques finished with three goals and an assist, while Hankins added two scores. Senior goalkeeper Lindsay Naill (Alexandria, Va./Bishop Ireton) also played the entire game and stopped 11 shots.

The Generals now advance to the NCAA Regional hosted by Salisbury University in Salisbury, Md. W&L will play fourth-ranked The College of New Jersey in the second round on Saturday at 2:30 pm.

W&L WOMEN'S LACROSSE CLAIMS ODAC CHAMPIONSHIP WITH A 13-7 WIN OVER VIRGINIA WESLEYAN

LEXINGTON, Va. – Senior midfielder Louisa Feve (Bethesda, Md./Winston Churchill) scored three goals and added an assist to help lead the top-seeded and 10th-ranked Washington and Lee women's lacrosse team to a 13-7 win over Virginia Wesleyan in the ODAC Championship Game on Sunday afternoon at Watt Field. It was the Generals' fourth consecutive ODAC title and tied the school-record for victories in a season (15-3).

W&L jumped out to a 5-0 lead with 17:50 gone-by on the strength of two goals by senior attacker Kate Lester (Wilmington, Del./Friends). The Marlins (14-4) cut the deficit to 5-2 on unassisted goals by sophomore midfielder Jillian Boyd (Warrenton, Va./Fauquier) and freshman midfielder Kasey Marchwicki (Boyds, Md./Poolesville) with 6:57 left in the first half. The Generals responded with consecutive goals by junior attacker Avery Lovejoy (Old Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich) and Feve to push their advantage to 7-2 at the 4:45 mark, but VWC scored two of the final three goals in the half to make it an 8-4 game at the break.

W&L opened up the second stanza with three consecutive markers by junior midfielder Maggie Megear (Cold Spring Harbor, N.Y./Cold Spring Harbor), sophomore midfielder Megan Slosson (Cockeysville, Md./Maryvale Prep) and junior midfielder Kelly Evans (Lexington, Va./Rockbridge County) to extend its' lead to 11-4 just 5:30 into the half. Following a tally by Marchwicki, the Generals notched the next two goals to take their largest lead of the game at 13-5 with 15:19 remaining en route to the six-goal victory.

Feve was aided by freshman attacker Kelsi Robinson (West Chester, Pa./Westtown), who had two goals and one assist. Lester and Slosson also finished with two goals apiece. Sophomore goalkeeper Sarah Tilbor (West Simsbury, Conn./Simsbury) played all 60 minutes and made seven saves.

For the Marlins, Marchwicki had two goals and one assist, while senior midfielder Laura Wallace (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) had one goal and one helper. Freshman goalkeeper Ashley Sippel (Leesburg, Va./Ashburn Stone Bridge) also played the entire game and stopped 16 shots.

The Generals return to action in the NCAA Division III Tournament against an opponent that is yet to be determined. Selections will be announced on Sunday, May 7.

W&L WOMEN'S LACROSSE DEFEATS ROANOKE, 12-2, IN ODAC TOURNAMENT SEMIFINALS

LEXINGTON, Va. – Senior attacker Amanda Strickler (Lexington, Va./Rockbridge County) scored two goals and notched four assists to help lead the top-seeded and 10th-ranked Washington and Lee women's lacrosse team to a 12-2 win over Roanoke in the ODAC Tournament semifinals on Saturday afternoon at Watt Field.

The Maroons (10-8) jumped out to a 1-0 lead just 26 seconds into the game on an unassisted tally by senior attacker Kally Perkins (Gulph Mills, Pa./Agnes Irwin), but the Generals (14-3) tied the game at 1-1 just 1:08 later on an unassisted goal by junior midfielder Kelly Evans (Lexington, Va./Rockbridge County). The game remained deadlocked at 1-1 until Strickler scored an unassisted goal at the 21:56 mark to give W&L a 2-1 lead. The Generals pushed their advantage to 3-1 when sophomore attacker Christine Bender (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) scored off a feed from freshman attacker Kelsi Robinson (West Chester, Pa./Westtown) with 15:40 left in the half and then scored three goals in a 1:00 span to increase their advantage to 6-1 at the 8:37 mark en route to an 8-1 halftime lead.

W&L opened the second half by scoring the first three goals to extend its' advantage to 11-1 with 12:51 remaining. Strickler had one goal and two assists during the spurt. Perkins cut the deficit to 11-2 with her second unassisted tally of the contest at the 11:03 mark, but sophomore attacker Laura Henson (Atlanta, Ga./Westminster) scored off an assist from Strickler with 1:57 remaining to close out the scoring.

Strickler was aided by junior midfielder Mallory Lobisser (Bainbridge Island, Wash./Lakeside), who had two goals and one assist. Evans, Bender and Henson all added two goals, while sophomore goalkeeper Sarah Tilbor (West Simsbury, Conn./Simsbury) played all 60:00 minutes and made 11 saves.

Roanoke freshman goalkeeper Katlyn Scarlett (Reisterstown, Md./St. Paul's School for Girls) also played the entire game and stopped 14 shots.

The Generals advance to the ODAC Championship Game on Sunday when it faces second-seeded Virginia Wesleyan at 2:00 pm. The Marlins moved on with a 14-13 victory over third-seeded Randolph-Macon in the second semifinal.

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Sophomore attacker Christine Bender (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) scored off an assist from senior attacker Amanda Strickler (Lexington, Va./Rockbridge County) with 4:36 remaining to lift the 11th-ranked Washington and Lee women's lacrosse team to a 9-8 win over Virginia Wesleyan in ODAC action on Saturday afternoon in Virginia Beach, Va. With the win, W&L improved to 13-3 overall, 8-0 ODAC, and clinched the No. 1 seed in the ODAC Tournament. The Marlins fell to 13-3 overall, 7-1 ODAC, and will be the No. 2 seed in the ODAC Tournament.

The Generals jumped out to a 2-0 lead with 5:11 gone-by on unassisted goals by junior midfielder Kelly Evans (Lexington, Va./Rockbridge County) and senior attacker Kate Lester (Wilmington, Del./Friends). The Marlins cut the deficit to 2-1 at the 16:21 mark when sophomore midfielder Jillian Boyd scored off a feed from junior attacker Chrissy Clancy. However, W&L would tally the next two goals to push its' advantage to 4-1 with 13:25 remaining in the half. VWC then notched five consecutive goals to grab a 6-4 advantage just 2:43 into the second stanza. Boyd and senior midfielder Laura Wallace both recorded two markers during the run.

Trailing 7-5 with 23:13 left, W&L sophomore midfielder Megan Slosson (Cockeysville, Md./Maryvale Prep) scored back-to-back goals to tie the game at 7-7 at the 20:51 mark. The Marlins regained the lead at 8-7 on an unassisted tally by Wallace with 15:57 left, but the Generals again knotted the score at 8-8 just 1:49 later on an unassisted goal by Strickler to set up Bender's game-winning goal.

Bender and Slosson both scored two goals, while Strickler and Evans each added a goal and an assist. Sophomore goalkeeper Sarah Tilbor (West Simsbury, Conn./Simsbury) played all 60:00 and made five saves.

The Marlins were led by Boyd, who finished with a game-high four goals. Wallace notched three goals, while Clancy had one goal and one assist. Freshman goalkeeper Ashley Sippel also played the entire game and stopped 16 shots.

The Generals return to the field on Saturday in the ODAC Tournament semifinals at Watt Field. The opponent and time are still to be determined.

The Generals (12-3, 7-0) jumped out to a 4-0 lead just 3:49 into the game en route to a 12-1 halftime advantage. In the second half, W&L notched eight of the first nine goals to grab its largest advantage of the game at 20-2 with 6:24 remaining in the contest. Guilford freshman midfielder Carolyn Rodda (Bethesda, Md./Academy of the Holy Cross) tallied two of the last four goals to make the final margin 21-5.

W&L freshman attacker Kelsi Robinson (West Chester, Pa./Westtown) had three goals and an assist, while senior attacker Kate Lester (Wilmington, Del./Friends) and junior midfielder Mallory Lobisser (Bainbridge Island, Wash./Lakeside) both tallied three goals. The Generals (11-3) took a 1-0 lead just 2:17 into the game on an unassisted tally by Megear, but the Gophers (8-5) notched a pair of unassisted goals by sophomore midfielder Kate Knitter (Sellersville, Pa./Pennridge) and sophomore attacker Emily Blatter (Lexington, Va./Rockbridge County) in a span of 19 seconds to take a 2-1 edge at the 26:11 mark. However, W&L scored the next three goals to retake the lead at 4-2 with 20:37 remaining in the first half. Goucher sliced it to 4-3 on a free position goal by Knitter just 2:49 later, but the Generals then scored four straight goals in a 1:02 span to push their advantage to 8-3 at the 8:25 mark en route to a 9-4 halftime lead. In the second half, W&L notched four of the first five goals to extend its lead to 13-5 with 13:32 left. The Gophers got an unassisted goal by junior attacker Whitney Groseclose (Boyce, Va./Mercersburg Academy) to make it 13-6 with 11:35 remaining, but the W&L tallied the last two goals by freshman attacker Katie Flippen (Norfolk, Va./Norfolk Academy) and Slosson to close out the scoring in the 15-6 win.

Strickler finished with two goals and two assists, while junior midfielder Kelly Evans (Lexington, Va./Rockbridge County) added two goals. Sophomore goalkeeper Sarah Tilbor (West Simsbury, Conn./Simsbury) played all 60:00 and made eight saves.

For Goucher, Blatter notched three goals, while Knitter had two scores. Senior goalkeeper Laura Webbert (Glen Arm, Md./Parkville) also played the entire game and stopped 15 shots.

The Generals (10-3, 6-0) jumped out to a 2-0 lead with 4:49 gone-by on a pair of goals by Lester with the first tally coming off an assist from senior attacker Amanda Strickler (Lexington, Va./Rockbridge County). The Hornets (6-4, 4-3) cut the deficit to 2-1 at the 5:31 mark on an unassisted goal by sophomore attacker Nichole Locher (Yorktown Heights, N.Y./Yorktown), but Lester notched an unassisted tally just 48 seconds later to start a run of nine consecutive goals to give W&L an 11-1 lead with 8:01 remaining in the first half. Sophomore midfielder Megan Slosson (Cockeysville, Md./Maryvale Prep) and sophomore attacker Christine Bender (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) each scored two goals during the spurt.

The Generals took a 12-2 advantage into halftime, but Lynchburg recorded the first three goals of the second half, including a pair by freshman attacker Caitlin Green (White Hall, Md./Hereford), to pull within 12-5 with 23:09 left in the game. However, Slosson scored her third goal of the game just 1:08 later to spark a six-goal spurt that gave the Generals an 18-5 lead en route to the 14-goal victory.

Strickler finished with two goals and a career-high five assists, while Bender and junior midfielder Mallory Lobisser (Bainbridge Island, Wash./Lakeside) both tallied two goals and one assist. Sophomore goalkeeper Sarah Tilbor (West Simsbury, Conn./Simsbury) played the first 30:00 and made three saves, while freshman Ali Hillyard (Media, Pa./Episcopal) was between the posts for the final 30:00 and stopped two shots.

Green led the Hornets with three goals, while Locher notched two goals and an assist. Junior goalkeeper Ji-Young Eun (Fairfax, Va./W.T. Woodson) played the entire game and made six saves.

ROANOKE, Va. – The 12th-ranked Washington and Lee women's lacrosse team jumped out to a 2-0 lead just 55 seconds into the game en route to a 10-0 halftime lead in cruising to a 17-0 victory over Hollins in ODAC action on Monday afternoon in Roanoke, Va. The win gave 18th-year Head Coach Jan Hathorn her 200th career victory at the helm of the Generals. Hathorn has posted a 200-88 record at W&L and has a career record of 255-107 in 23 seasons as a head coach.

The Generals (9-3, 5-0) scored 17 goals on 21 shots and were led by sophomore midfielder Megan Slosson (Cockeysville, Md./Maryvale Prep) and freshman attacker Katie Flippen (Norfolk, Va./Norfolk Academy), who each scored three goals. Junior midfielder Maggie Megear (Cold Spring Harbor, N.Y./Cold Spring Harbor) notched two goals and an assist, while junior midfielder Mallory Lobisser (Bainbridge Island, Wash./Lakeside) added two goals.

Senior attacker Amanda Strickler (Lexington, Va./Rockbridge County) scored one goal and notched three assists, while freshman attacker Kelsi Robinson (West Chester, Pa./Westtown) tallied three assists. Strickler now has 64 career assists, which ranks second all-time at W&L.

The trio of sophomore Sarah Tilbor (West Simsbury, Conn./Simsbury) and freshmen Ali Hillyard (Media, Pa./Episcopal) and Erin Coltrera (Seattle, Wash./Lakeside) combined to make three saves between the posts.

For Hollins (0-10, 0-7), senior goalkeeper Emily Daniels stopped three shots.

The Generals return to the field on Wednesday when they host Lynchburg for a 4:00 pm contest.

W&L WOMEN'S LACROSSE DEFEATS SWEET BRIAR, 16-2

LEXINGTON, Va. – Senior attacker Amanda Strickler (Lexington, Va./Rockbridge County) scored three goals and notched two assists to lift the 12th-ranked Washington and Lee women's lacrosse team to a 16-2 victory over Sweet Briar in ODAC action on Saturday afternoon at Watt Field. Strickler now has 61 career assists, which moves her into third place on W&L's all-time list and needs just three more helpers to take sole possession of second place.

The Generals (8-3, 4-0) took a 4-0 lead with 9:19 gone-by on two goals each by Strickler and junior attacker Avery Lovejoy (Old Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich). Strickler, junior midfielder Kelly Evans (Lexington, Va./Rockbridge County) and sophomore midfielder Megan Slosson (Cockeysville, Md./Maryvale Prep) all notched assists during the spurt. The Vixens (5-6, 2-4) pulled to within 4-1 on an unassisted tally by sophomore attacker Sarah Ross Stewart (Lexington, Va./Virginia Episcopal) at the 11:56 mark, but W&L tallied the next four goals, including a pair by junior midfielder Lane Earnest (Preston, Md./Easton), to carry an 8-1 advantage into halftime.

In the second half, the Generals scored six goals in a 5:35 span to extend their lead to 14-1 with 15:35 remaining en route to the 16-2 victory.

Strickler was aided by Lovejoy, who finished with three goals. Evans added two goals and an assist, while senior attacker Kate Lester (Wilmington, Del./Friends) and Earnest both had two scores. Sophomore Sarah Tilbor (West Simsbury, Conn./Simsbury) and freshmen Ali Hillyard (Media, Pa./Episcopal) and Erin Coltrera (Seattle, Wash./Lakeside) combined to make four saves between the posts.

LEXINGTON, Va. – The 17th-ranked Washington and Lee women's lacrosse team had 13 different players score a goal, including three players with three goals each, in a 21-6 victory over Catholic on Sunday afternoon at the W&L Turf Field.

The Generals (7-3) jumped out to a 6-0 lead with 9:08 gone-by in the first half, including four goals in a 1:03 stretch. Junior attacker Avery Lovejoy (Old Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich) notched two goals and one assist during the run, while junior midfielder Kelly Evans (Lexington, Va./Rockbridge County) added two assists. The Cardinals (4-4) got on the scoreboard at the 11:42 mark on a free position goal by junior Courtney Murray (Langhorne, Pa./Villa Maria) to cut the deficit to 6-1, but W&L would tally eight of the next nine goals to take a 14-2 lead into halftime.

Catholic opened the second half by scoring two of the first three goals to make it a 15-4 game, but the Generals notched the next five goals to push their lead to 20-4. The Cardinals closed out the game by scoring two of the final three goals in the last 1:22 to make the final score 21-6.

LEXINGTON, Va. – Senior midfielder Louisa Feve (Bethesda, Md./Winston Churchill) and freshman attacker Kelsi Robinson (West Chester, Pa./Westtown) each scored two goals and added an assist to help lead No. 17 Washington and Lee to a 15-7 win over fourth-ranked Colorado College in women's lacrosse action on Friday afternoon at Watt Field.

The Generals (6-3) took a 1-0 lead just 1:50 into the game on an unassisted goal by junior midfielder Maggie Megear (Cold Spring Harbor, N.Y./Cold Spring Harbor). The Tigers (5-2) tied the game at 1-1 at the 23:29 mark when junior midfielder Robin Harvey (Winchester, Mass.) scored the first of her two goals off a free position shot. W&L regained the lead at 2-1 with 20:25 left when Megear notched her second tally of the game off a free position shot. CC knotted the game at 2-2 with 18:16 remaining when senior midfielder Helen Sneath (Wayne, Pa.) scored off an assist from junior attacker Kate Fitzgerald (Sudbury, Mass.). However, a goal by Robinson off a feed from Feve started a seven-goal spurt by the Generals that gave them a 9-2 advantage just 58 seconds into the second half.

The Tigers would scored the next three goals to cut the deficit to 9-5 with 18:46 remaining in the contest, but W&L tallied six of the final eight goals en route to the 15-7 win.

Senior attacker Kate Lester (Wilmington, Del./Friends) and junior attacker Karina Schless (Old Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich) also scored two goals for the Generals, while freshman midfielder Kate Corr (Shrewsbury, N.J./Red Bank Regional) recorded two assists. Sophomore goalkeeper Sarah Tilbor (West Simsbury, Conn./Simsbury) played all 60 minutes and tied her season-high with 11 saves.

For the Tigers, Fitzgerald and senior midfielder Jackie Russell (San Francisco, Calif.) each had one goal and one assist. LEXINGTON, Va. – Senior midfielder Rachel Barr (Hanover, N.H.) scored a game-high five goals to help lead the 12th-ranked Williams women's lacrosse team to a 10-9 win over No. 17 Washington and Lee on Tuesday afternoon at Watt Field.

The Ephs (2-2) led 10-6 with 18:25 remaining in the game, but the Generals notched a pair of unassisted goals by senior attacker Kate Lester (Wilmington, Del./Friends) and junior midfielder Maggie Megear (Cold Spring Harbor, N.Y./Cold Spring Harbor) to pull within 10-8 with 2:21 left. Junior attacker Avery Lovejoy (Old Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich) then scored off a feed from senior midfielder Louisa Feve (Bethesda, Md./Winston Churchill) with just 12 seconds remaining in the game to cut the deficit to 10-9 and despite winning the ensuing draw control, W&L was unable to score the tying goal.

The Generals (5-3) jumped out to a 1-0 at the 27:47 mark of the first half on an unassisted tally by Feve, but Barr found the back of W&L's net off an assist from junior defender Emily Gladden (Princeton, N.J.) at the 5:44 mark to tie the game at 1-1. Barr then scored her second goal of the contest off a free position shot with 17:56 left in the first half, but this time W&L responded to knot the game at 2-2 on an unassisted tally by Megear. Barr gave the Ephs a 3-2 advantage on a free position goal at the 14:51 mark to start a streak of five unanswered goals that would give Williams a 7-2 halftime lead.

W&L opened the second half on a free position goal by senior attacker Amanda Strickler (Lexington, Va./Rockbridge County) and an unassisted tally by Lester to get the Generals back within 7-4 with 24:55 left in the game, but Williams would notch three of the next five goals to push its lead to 10-6.

Megear finished with three goals and Lester added two scores. Feve added one goal and one assist, while sophomore goalkeeper Sarah Tilbor (West Simsbury, Conn./Simsbury) made 10 saves.

The Eagles (4-2) jumped out to a 1-0 lead just 2:59 into the game when senior attacker Karen Pickering (St. James, N.Y./Smithtown) notched the first of her three goals off an assist from sophomore attacker Emily Talbot (New Canann, Conn./New Canann). The Generals (5-2) responded by scoring the next four goals, including two by junior midfielder Maggie Megear (Cold Spring Harbor, N.Y./Cold Spring Harbor), to take a 4-1 edge with 14:03 left in the half. UMW cut the deficit to 4-2 at the 17:27 mark when sophomore midfielder Margaret Murray (Earlysville, Va./Albemarle) found the back of W&L's net off a feed from senior attacker Callie Talbot (New Canann, Conn./New Canann). However, the Generals tallied three of the final four goals in the first half, including an unassisted goal by Megear with 1.4 seconds remaining, to take a 7-3 lead into the break.

However, the Eagles notched three straight goals to slice the lead to 8-6 with 18:12 left in the game, but Feve tallied two of the last three goals en route to the 10-7 win.

Megear finished with three goals, while sophomore attacker Christine Bender (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) notched a pair of goals. Sophomore goalkeeper Sarah Tilbor (West Simsbury, Conn./Simsbury) played all 60 minutes and made a season-high 11 saves.

A total of 13 different players cracked the scoring column for W&L, led by Strickler's effort. The Generals (3-2) got on the board with 14:07 left in the first half on a free-position goal by senior attackman Amanda Strickler (Lexington, Va./Rockbridge County), but the Diplomats responded with two straight tallies for a 6-1 lead with 7:57 remaining in the half. Junior attacker Avery Lovejoy (Old Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich) and senior attacker Kate Lester (Wilmington, Del./Friends) both also found the net before halftime, but another pair of Diplomat (1-0) goals produced an 8-3 halftime score.

Trailing 10-4 with 23:07 remaining, W&L mounted a rally by scoring three straight goals to slice to a 10-7 game. W&L WOMEN'S LACROSSE DOWNS RANDOLPH-MACON, 17-7

ASHLAND, Va. – Senior attacker Kate Lester (Wilmington, Del./Friends) and sophomore attacker Christine Bender (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) each scored three goals and notched an assist to help lead 13th-ranked Washington and Lee to a 17-7 victory over Randolph-Macon in ODAC women's lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon in Ashland, Va.

The Yellow Jackets (1-2, 0-1) jumped out to a 1-0 lead just 1:57 into the game when sophomore midfielder Lacy Phelps scored off a feed from junior midfielder Tracy Phipps. The Generals (2-1, 2-0) tied the game at 1-1 at the 25:54 mark when Lester found the back of the R-MC net off an assist from senior attacker Amanda Strickler (Lexington, Va./Rockbridge County).

W&L then scored the next five goals over a span of 4:33 to take a 6-1 advantage. Phipps cut the deficit to 6-2 with an unassisted tally at 17:52, but the Generals notched five of the next nine tallies to take an 11-6 lead into halftime. W&L then outscored the Yellow Jackets 6-1 in the second half en route to the 10-goal victory.

Junior midfielders Maggie Megear (Cold Spring Harbor, N.Y/Cold Spring Harbor) and Kelly Evans (Lexington, Va./Rockbridge County) both tallied two goals and one assist, while sophomore midfielder Megan Slosson (Cockeysville, Md./Maryvale Prep) notched two goals. Freshman attacker Kelsi Robinson (West Chester, Pa./Westtown) added a goal and two assists.

Sophomore goalkeeper Sarah Tilbor (West Simsbury, Conn./Simsbury) played 55 minutes and made eight saves, while freshman Ali Hillyard (Media, Pa./Episcopal) stopped one shot in the final five minutes.

Senior midfielder Liz Lombardo led the Yellow Jackets with three goals and Phelps finished with two tallies. Sophomore goalkeeper Lindsay Schabert played all 60 minutes and made 18 saves.

The Generals return to action on Wednesday when they host Frostburg State at 4:00 pm.

W&L WOMEN'S LACROSSE DEFEATS ROANOKE, 13-5

LEXINGTON, Va. – Junior midfielder Maggie Megear (Cold Spring Harbor, N.Y./Cold Spring Harbor) scored three goals and added an assist to help lead the 13th-ranked Washington and Lee women's lacrosse team to a 13-5 victory over ODAC-foe Roanoke on Wednesday evening at the W&L Turf Field.

The Generals (1-1, 1-0) jumped out to a 2-0 lead just 6:25 into the game on an unassisted goal by junior midfielder Kelly Evans (Lexington, Va./Rockbridge County) and a tally by junior midfielder Mallory Lobisser (Bainbridge Island, Wash./Lakeside) off an assist from Megear. The Maroons (0-1, 0-1) sliced the deficit to 2-1 at the 7:34 mark on an unassisted tally by senior attacker Kally Perkins (Gulph Mills, Pa./Agnes Irwin), her first of her four goals on the day. However, W&L scored three of the next four goals, including two by Megear to take a 5-2 halftime lead.

The Generals then scored seven consecutive goals over the first 17:20 of the second half to take a commanding 12-2 advantage. Freshman attacker Kelsi Robinson (West Chester, Pa./Westtown) scored two of her first three collegiate goals during the run and freshman attacker Katie Flippen (Norfolk, Va./Norfolk Academy) tallied her first collegiate goal as well. Roanoke closed out the game by scoring three of the last four goals, including a pair by Perkins, to make the final margin 13-5.

W&L senior attacker Amanda Strickler (Lexington, Va./Rockbridge County) notched one goal and two assists, while senior attacker Kate Lester (Wilmington, Del./Friends) added two goals. Sophomore goalkeeper Sarah Tilbor (West Simsbury, Conn./Simsbury) played all 60 minutes and made four saves.

Freshman goalkeeper Katlyn Scarlett (Reistertown, Md./St. Paul's School for Girls) also played the entire game and stopped 15 shots for the Maroons.

W&L WOMEN'S LAX FALLS TO ST. MARY'S 8-6 IN SEASON-OPENER

ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. -- Fourteenth-ranked St. Mary's College of Maryland scored five unanswered goals in a span of 12:35 between the first and second halves to post an 8-6 victory over 11th-ranked Washington and Lee in the Generals' season-opener on Saturday afternoon at St. Mary's.

The Generals (0-1) led 3-2 with 9:38 left in the opening period following an unassisted goal by senior attacker Amanda Strickler (Lexington, Va./Rockbridge County). However, the Seahawks responded with the five-goal run starting at the 7:43 mark on an unassisted tally by freshman midfielder Lauren Carrier. SMCM scored three more goals before the half and another just 4:52 into the second half to assume a 7-3 lead with 25:08 remaining.

W&L sliced it to a 7-4 game with 22:11 left on a goal by junior midfielder Mallory Lobisser (Bainbridge Island, Wash./Lakeside), but neither team could find the net again until Carrier scored again with 7:21 left for an 8-4 lead. The Generals scored a pair of goals in the final 1:44, but could get no closer than the two-goal final margin.

Junior midfielder Maggie Megear (Cold Spr. Harbor, N.Y./Cold Spr. Harbor) led the W&L offense with a pair of goals, while Strickler tallied one goal and one assist. Sophomore Sarah Tilbor (West Simsbury, Conn./Simsbury) played all 60 minutes in goal, recording seven saves.

Carrier paced the Seahawks with three goals, while junior midfielder Katy Perry totaled one goal and one assist. Junior Melissa Puzak stopped nine shots in goal.
