BULLETS GUN DOWN GENERALS, 13-8, IN NCAA WOMEN'S LAX TOURNEY
SALISBURY, Md. -- Fifth-ranked Gettysburg College broke a 1-1 tie early in the game with three goals in a span of 51 seconds en route to a 10-3 halftime lead in defeating 11th-ranked Washington and Lee, 13-8, in the second round of the NCAA Division III Women's Lacrosse Tournament at Salisbury University.
The Generals climbed to within 4-2 on an unassisted goal by junior midfielder Kristen Brown (Baltimore, Md./Catonsville) with 8:15 remaining in the first half, but the Bullets went on to score the next five goals in taking the commanding halftime lead.
W&L was led by senior attacker Kelly Taffe (Charlottesville, Va./Albemarle), who totaled three goals and one assist, to improve her school-record scoring totals to 182 goals and 238 points. Senior attacker Lee Wheeler (Baltimore, Md./Bryn Mawr) added one goal and one assist, while senior goalie Joanna Perini (Huntington, N.Y./Huntington) notched 10 saves.
Gettysburg (18-2) was paced by senior attacker Julika Blankenship's two goals and three assists. Junior midfielder Katie Lowe posted two goals and one assist, and junior midfielder Cassidy Zappacosta added one goal and two helpers. Senior Liz Borucki recorded five saves in goal.
With the loss, W&L's season ends with a school-record 15 victories against just four defeats. Gettysburg will take on Salisbury in the National Quarterfinals on Sunday at 1:00 pm.

W&L WOMEN'S LACROSSE EDGES VIRGINIA WESLEYAN, 11-9, IN ODAC TITLE GAME
LEXINGTON, Va. – Tenth-ranked and top-seeded Washington
and Lee claimed the Old Dominion Athletic Conference title for the
second year in a row as the Generals edged second-seeded Virginia
Wesleyan, 11-9, in the championship game on Sunday afternoon at the
W&L Lacrosse Stadium.
The Generals (15-3) held a 7-5 lead at halftime and pushed that
lead to 8-5 with a goal from senior attacker Kelly Taffe
(Charlottesville, Va./Albemarle) with 25:54 remaining. The Marlins
(15-3) answered with a goal at the 17:54 mark from senior attacker
Anne Marie Nash (Norfolk, Va./Norfolk Academy) to make it 8-6, but
W&L quickly regained a three-goal lead (9-6) when senior
midfielder Lee Wheeler (Baltimore, Md./Bryn Mawr) sank a goal off
an assist by sophomore midfielder Kate Lester (Wilmington,
Del./Friends) with 17:21 remaining.
The Marlins pulled back to within 9-7 at the 14:38 mark with a
tally from senior midfielder Summer Foster (Annandale,
Va./Annandale), but W&L again pushed it's lead to three when
sophomore attacker Amanda Strickler (Lexington, Va./Rockbridge
County) scored unassisted at 10:22 to make it 10-7.
In the waning minutes of the game, Virginia Wesleyan made one
last attempt to even the score with back-to-back goals with 3:53
and 2:48 remaining to pull within 10-9, but the Generals maintained
control of the ball for the remainder of the contest while adding
an insurance goal from freshman midfielder Mallory Lobisser
(Bainbridge Island, Wash./Lakeside) with 22 seconds remaining in
the game.
Strickler led W&L with four goals, while Taffe and Lobisser
each scored three goals. Wheeler rounded out the Generals' goal
scorers with a lone tally, while Lester and junior midfielder
Maggie Speasmaker (Charlottesville, Va./St. Anne's-Belfield) each
recorded one assist. Senior Joanna Perini (Huntington,
N.Y./Huntington) played all 60 minutes in the W&L net, making
12 saves.
Nash led the Marlins with four goals and three assists. Foster
scored two goals with one assist and sophomore attacker Laura
Wallace (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) added one goal and
two assists. Senior Margie Baker (Chesapeake, Va./Hickory) made 11
stops in the Virginia Wesleyan net.
The Generals return to action in the NCAA Division III Tournament
at a site, time and date yet to be determined, against an opponent
yet to be determined.

W&L WOMEN'S LACROSSE BESTS RANDOLPH-MACON, 14-3, IN ODAC SEMIFINALS
LEXINGTON, Va. – Tenth-ranked and top-seeded Washington
and Lee avenged its April 10 loss to Randolph-Macon on Saturday,
downing the Yellow Jackets, 14-3, in the ODAC women's lacrosse
tournament semifinals at the W&L Lacrosse Stadium.
The Generals (14-3) took a 9-0 lead into halftime and pushed their
lead to 10 goals with the first tally of the second half before
Randolph-Macon finally got on the scoreboard with back-to-back
goals with 26:33 and 23:41 remaining in the game. Washington and
Lee answered by outscoring the Yellow Jackets 4-1 in the remainder
of the contest for the 11-goal win.
For the second game in a row, senior attacker Kelly Taffe
(Charlottesville, Va./Albemarle) rewrote the W&L record books.
Taffe notched a game-high five goals and added one assist to become
the Generals' all-time leader for points in a career with 231,
surpassing Leslie Bogart (2000-03) and Lisa Dowling (1990-93).
Sophomore midfielder Kate Lester (Wilmington, Del./Friends) scored
two goals and added one assist, while senior midfielder Lee Wheeler
(Baltimore, Md./Bryn Mawr) rounded out the multiple-goal scorers
with a pair. Sophomore attacker Amanda Strickler (Lexington,
Va./Rockbridge County) and freshman midfielder Maggie Megear (Cold
Spring Harbor, N.Y./Cold Spring Harbor) both scored one goal and
added one assist. Senior Joanna Perini (Huntington,
N.Y./Huntington) seven saves in the Generals' goal.
For the Yellow Jackets, junior midfielder Catie Proulx (Concord,

Md./Annapolis) all scored a goal while senior Ashley Seal

second-seeded Virginia Wesleyan in the ODAC Championship game. That

LEXINGTON, Va. – Top-seeded Washington and Lee scored 17
straight goals, including 10 in the first 19:17 to secure the
running clock, as the Generals posted a 20-1 victory over
eighth-seeded Bridgewater in the first round of the ODAC Tournament
on Wednesday at the W&L Lacrosse Stadium.
Senior attacker Kelly Taffe (Charlottesville, Va./Albemarle)
high-lighted the afternoon for W&L (13-3), scoring a pair of
goals to surpass Lisa Dowling (1990-93) for the most career goals
by a General with 171. Taffe also finished second on the day with
three assists.
Senior midfielder Lee Wheeler (Baltimore, Md./Bryn Mawr) and
freshman midfielder Kelly Evans (Lexington, Va./Rockbridge County)
both scored three goals with one assist, while freshman attacker

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Tenth-ranked Washington and Lee claimed the
top seed for the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Women's Lacrosse
Tournament with a 12-6 win over Roanoke on Friday afternoon at the
W&L Lacrosse Stadium. The Generals finish the regular season
with a 7-1 conference mark, while the Maroons conclude the regular
season with a 6-2 ODAC record.
The Generals (12-3 overall) couldn't shake Roanoke for most of the
opening half before breaking a 3-3 tie with a pair of goals in the
final 45 seconds of the first half. Senior attacker Kelly Taffe
(Charlottesville, Va./Albemarle) scored on a free-position shot
with 45 seconds left, then found the net again off an assist from
senior attacker Lee Wheeler (Baltimore, Md./Bryn Mawr) with four
seconds remaining.
W&L scored the first goal of the second period as sophomore
midfielder Kate Lester (Wilmington, Del./Friends) scored unassisted
at the 20:49 mark to give the Generals a 6-3 lead. After the teams
traded goals over the next two minutes, the Maroons scored a pair
of goals to pull within 7-6 with 12:53 remaining. However, W&L
scored the final five goals of the game, including two by Taffe,
for the six-goal margin.
Taffe led the Generals with four goals and two assists. Wheeler
notched three goals and one assist, while Lester found the net
three times. Senior Joanna Perini (Huntington, N.Y./Huntington)
notched 14 saves in goal.
Roanoke (8-5 overall) was led by senior midfielder Carrie Smith
(Charlottesville, Va./Monticello), who scored a goal and assisted
on another. Sophomore goalie Danielle Serratore (Conshohocken,
Pa./Plymouth-Whitemarsh) kept the Generals at bay for most of the
afternoon, recording 19 saves.
Washington and Lee will host eighth-seeded Bridgewater on
Wednesday in the opening round of the ODAC Tournament. The game

Taffe opened up the day's scoring just 30 seconds into the game
with an unassisted goal at 29:30 and scored two of the next four
W&L (11-3, 6-1) goals in helping the Generals cruise to a 15-1
halftime advantage.
Nine different W&L players recorded multiple points on the
day, including two goals and an assist from freshman attacker Avery
Lovejoy (Old Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich), a goal and two assists
from senior attacker Lee Wheeler (Baltimore, Md./Bryn Mawr) and

The Generals (10-3, 5-1) jumped out to a 2-0 lead as senior

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Junior midfielder Erin Rathbone (Darnestown, Md./Northwest) scored off an assist by senior attacker Kelly Taffe (Charlottesville, Va./Albemarle) with 2:06 remaining in overtime to lift eighth-ranked Washington and Lee to a 14-13 win over seventh-ranked Williams in women's lacrosse action on Tuesday.
The Generals (10-2) trailed 8-4 with 5:07 remaining in the first half, but scored six of the game's next seven goals over a span of 12:30 to assume a 10-9 lead with 21:07 remaining in regulation The Ephs (2-2) then scored two goals in a total of 47 seconds to go back on top 11-10 with 17:18 remaining and the two teams traded the lead until W&L sophomore midfielder Kate Lester (Wilmington, Del./Friends) tied the game at 13-13 with 3:11 remaining with a goal assisted by senior attacker Lee Wheeler (Baltimore, Md./Bryn Mawr), setting up Rathbone's game-winner.
W&L was led offensively by Taffe, who totaled four goals and one assist. Wheeler tallied two goals and two assists, while Lester, Rathbone and junior midfielder Kitt Murphy (New York, N.Y./St. Catherines) each scored two goals. Senior Joanna Perini (Huntington, N.Y./Huntington) notched eight saves in goal, including one at point-blank range with just seconds left in regulation.
Williams was led by freshman midfielder Kaylan Tildsley (Andover, Mass.), who posted three goals and six assists. Senior midfielder Molly Jennings (Greenwich, Conn.) compiled five goals and one assist. Sophomore Meghan Dwyer (Norwell, Mass.) and freshman Morgan Anderson (Swarthmore, Pa.) both played in goal for the Ephs, combining for 10 saves. Anderson played the final 27:07 of the game between the pipes to pick up the loss.
Williams held a slight 33-31 edge in shots and controlled the ground balls (42-33) and draw controls (18-13).

contest, but saw Catholic (5-4) battle back with a 5-1 run that
tied the game at 7-7 with 3:55 remaining in the first half. The
Generals took a narrow 8-7 lead into the mid-game break as senior

RICHMOND, Va. – The tenth-ranked Washington and Lee
women’s lacrosse team used a 7-1 advantage in the first half
as the Generals defeated 12th-ranked Colby, 14-5, in non-conference
action on Sunday afternoon at the University of Richmond.
Following halftime, the Mules (0-2) scored four of the next five
goals to pull within 8-5 of the Generals (7-2) with 16:29 left to
play. Washington and Lee reaffirmed its control of the game,
however, and scored seven straight goals to end the
afternoon’s scoring.
Senior attacker Kelly Taffe (Charlottesville, Va./Albemarle) led
all scorers with four goals, while senior midfielder Lee Wheeler

LEXINGTON, Va. – Eighth-ranked Mary Washington used a 5-3
half time advantage to outlast 10th-ranked Washington and Lee, 7-6,
in non-conference women's lacrosse on Saturday afternoon.
Following the mid-game break, the Generals (6-2) were first to
find the net as senior midfielder Lee Wheeler (Baltimore, Md./Bryn
Mawr) scored her second goal of the game off an assist by senior
attacker Kelly Taffe (Charlottesville, Va./Albemarle) at 26:58 to
make it 5-4 in MWC's favor.
The Eagles (4-2) responded at 19:19 when freshman midfielder
Jackie Rose (Medford, N.J./Shawnee) found the net for her third
goal of the day, this time off an assist by junior attacker Britt
Gottlieb (Middlebury, Vt./Phillips Academy) to give MWC a 6-4
lead.
The Generals countered with a free position goal by freshman

LANCASTER, Pa. – Thirteenth-ranked Washington and Lee
outscored 16th-ranked Franklin & Marshall, 6-2, in the final
26:34 to secure a 10-9 non-conference women's lacrosse victory on
Saturday afternoon.
Trailing, 7-3, with 28:01 remaining in the game, the Generals
(5-1) began their come-back as senior attacker Kelly Taffe
(Charlottesville, Va./Albemarle) scored off an assist by sophomore
attacker Amanda Strickler (Lexington, Va./Rockbridge County) at
26:34. Sophomore midfielders Rachel Wallick (Phoenix, Md./Notre
Dame Prep) and Kate Lester (Wilmington, Del./Friends) pulled
W&L to within 7-6 of the Diplomats (1-2) with goals at 25:30
and 24:22 respectively, before a score by Alexis O'Meara at 19:37

The Vixens countered on a goal by senior midfielder Maria Kitchin (Virginia Beach, Va./Norfolk Academy) off an assist from senior attacker Anne Benham (The Woodlands, Texas/The Woodlands) with 13:22 remaining in the first half to make the score 3-1, but the Generals added five straight goals to enter the half with a commanding 8-1 lead.

but couldn't shake Greensboro (0-2) early on as the Pride answered
with three straight trips to net, setting the score at 4-3 in
W&L's favor with 19:01 to play in the first half.

pushed the Generals' lead to 6-3 with back-to-back goals, scoring
at 16:31 and 15:15, but Greensboro answered at 10:20 with a goal
