W&L WOMEN'S LACROSSE FALLS TO LONGWOOD, 12-5
LEXINGTON, Va.-- Longwood College, the top ranked team in NCAA
Division II, scored six-straight goals midway through the first
half and registered a 12-5 win at Washington & Lee University
Saturday in women's lacrosse action at the Liberty Hall Fields.
The Generals opened a 2-0 lead early in the first half behind
scores from sophomore attacker Stephanie Haldy (Bryn Mawr,
Pa./Agnes Irwin) and senior midfielder Emily Owens (Waco,
Texas/Episcopal), but Longwood quickly answered with three tallies
to take a 3-2 advantage.
After a W&L score, the Lancers (15-0) netted six-straight
goals, three by junior defender Tia Richardson (Ellicott City,
Md./Centennial), to open a 9-3 lead late in the first half. W&L
scored just before the break, but the visitors tacked on three
additional goals early in the second stanza to put the contest out
of reach.
Five different Generals scored, with sophomore midfielders Kelly
Taffe (Charlottesville, Va./Albemarle) and Lee Wheeler (Baltimore,
Md./Bryn Mawr) each posting a goal and an assist. Sophomore goalie
Joanna Perini (Huntington, N.Y./Huntington) made 12 stops in
net.
Richardson and freshman midfielder Emily Bikowski (Fairfax,
Va./Bishop O'Connell) each scored three times for Longwood, and
senior midfielder Beth Hadrys (Vandalia, Ohio/Joppatowne (MD)) had
two scores. Sophomore attacker Kristy Taylor (Lorton, Va./Bishop
Ireton) had a goal and two assists, while sophomore goalkeeper
Stacey Schmidt (Berlin, N.J./Eastern) recorded seven saves.
W&L ends its season 11-6 overall.

W&L WOMEN'S LACROSSE FALLS TO RANDOLPH-MACON, 12-11 (OT) IN ODAC FINALS
ASHLAND, Va. -- Top-seeded Randolph-Macon overcame an 11-4 deficit in the second half to defeat second-seeded Washington and Lee, 12-11, in overtime in the finals of the ODAC women's lacrosse tournament on Sunday afternoon. The Yellow Jackets will receive the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
The Generals (11-5) led 6-2 at the half and pushed their advantage to 11-4 on an unassisted goal by freshman midfielder Kristen Brown (Baltimore, Md./Catonsville) at the 7:54 mark of the second period.
However, the Yellow Jackets (12-4) would go on to score the game's next seven goals, tying the game at 11-11 as Randolph-Macon senior midfielder Erin Riedy (Ellicott City, Md./McDonogh) scored off an assist from senior midfielder Angela Bisland (Edgewater, Md./St. Mary's) with two seconds remaining in regulation.
The Yellow Jackets then scored the game-winning goal with 1:21 remaining in the first overtime period as junior midfielder Mandy Dougherty (Lutherville, Md./Garrison Forest) found the net off an assist from Bisland.
Washington and Lee was led by junior midfielder Leslie Bogart (Wilton, Conn./Wilton), who totaled one goal and three assists. Brown, freshman midfielder Kitt Murphy (Richmond, Va./St. Catherines), senior midfielder Courtenay Fisher (Baltimore, Md./Garrison Forest) and sophomore midfielder Lee Wheeler (Baltimore, Md./Bryn Mawr) each tallied two goals. Sophomore Joanna Perini (Huntington, N.Y./Huntington) notched nine saves in goal.
Brown, Bogart and senior defender Eloise Priest (Alexandria, Va./St. Stephens & St. Agnes) were named to the all-tournament team.
Riedy led R-MC with seven goals, while Bisland amassed one goal and six assists. Sophomore Ashley Seal (Richmond, Va./Collegiate) posted eight saves in goal.
Washington and Lee will be in action again on Saturday as it hosts Longwood College for a 12:00 pm contest.

W&L WOMEN'S LACROSSE ADVANCES TO ODAC FINALS WITH 8-4 VICTORY OVER ROANOKE
ASHLAND, Va. -- The second-seeded Washington and Lee women's
lacrosse team advanced to the Old Dominion Athletic Conference
Tournament Championship with an 8-4 victory over third-seeded
Roanoke in semifinal action in Ashland, Va. on Saturday
afternoon.
The Generals will square off against top-seeded Randolph-Macon at
2:00 pm on Sunday afternoon in the ODAC Championship. The Yellow
Jackets defeated fifth-seeded Virginia Wesleyan, 14-8, in
Saturday's first semifinal game. The winner of Sunday's ODAC
Championship will receive the league's automatic berth to the NCAA
Division III Tournament.
W&L (11-4) assumed a 5-1 halftime advantage against the
Maroons today as sophomore midfielders Kelly Taffe
(Charlottesville, Va./Albemarle) and Lee Wheeler (Baltimore,
Md./Bryn Mawr) registered two goals each. Senior midfielder Emily
Owens (Waco, Texas/Episcopal) netted W&L's other first half
goal.
The Generals tacked on three insurance goals in the second half,
including Taffe's third of the contest and two from junior attacker
Leslie Bogart (Wilton, Conn./Wilton).
Taffe finished the game with three goals, while Wheeler and Bogart
netted two apiece. Sophomore Joanna Perini (Huntington,
N.Y./Huntington) was spectacular in goal as she posted 18
saves.
Roanoke (11-6) freshman attacker Steph Calabrese (Darien,
Conn./Darien) scored a pair of goals and assisted on one, while
senior midfielder Leslie Hunt (Baltimore, Md./Towson) contrinuted
two goals. Freshman Koehl Robinson (Bryn Mawr, Pa./Episcopal) and
junior Lisa Humphries (Glasgow, Va./Rockbridge County) combined to
stop 10 shots between the pipes.
The Generals outshot Roanoke, 26-23 for the game.

LEXINGTON, Va. -- The second-seeded Washington and Lee women's
lacrosse team advanced to the Old Dominion Athletic Conference
Tournament semifinals with a 16-1 victory over seventh-seeded Sweet
Briar in quarterfinal action on Wednesday afternoon at the Liberty
Hall Fields.
The Generals will now meet third-seeded Roanoke in Saturday's
semifinals at 3:00 pm at a site yet to be determined. The Maroons
advanced with a 16-4 victory over sixth-seeded Bridgewater.
W&L (10-4) assumed a 12-1 lead at halftime as freshman
midfielder Kitt Murphy (Richmond, Va./St. Catherines) tallied four
goals in the first half. Sophomore midfielder Kelly Taffe
(Charlottesville, Va./Albemarle) added three goals and one assist
in the opening half, while junior attacker Leslie Bogart (Wilton,
Conn./Wilton) chipped in with a goal and two assists in the first
30 minutes.
The Generals added four second half goals to provide the final
margin. Leading the W&L offense in the final 30 minutes was
freshman attacker Annie Rochfort (Baltimore, Md./Notre Dame Prep)
who contributed one goal and two assists in the second half. She
ended the contest with a goal and three helpers.
Sweet Briar (7-8) freshman attacker Ginger Tripp (Richmond,
Va./St. Catherines) registered the Vixens only goal at the 13:31
mark of the first half.
W&L sophomore goalkeepers Joanna Perini (Huntington,
N.Y./Huntington) and Annie Tompkins (Houston, Texas/The Kinkaid
School) combined to post two saves in net. Sweet Briar sophomore
Christina Tannahill (Christiansburg, Va./Christiansburg) recorded
six saves between the pipes.

W&L WOMEN'S LACROSSE DEFEATS VIRGINIA WESLEYAN, 11-10
NORFOLK, Va. -- The Washington and Lee women's lacrosse team
rallied from a 7-5 halftime deficit to post an 11-10 victory over
Virginia Wesleyan and clinch the No. 2 seed in next week's ODAC
Tournament.
The Generals (9-4, 7-1) assumed a 2-0 lead 10 minutes into the
contest as sophomore midfielder Kelly Taffe (Charlottesville,
Va./Albemarle) scored at the 25:36 mark and sophomore midfielder
Lee Wheeler (Baltimore, Md./Bryn Mawr) netted a goal with 19:49
remaining. Following a Blue Marlin score just 11 seconds later,
Wheeler notched her second goal of the half at the 18:23 mark to
provide the Generals with a 3-1 lead. A goal by Kristina Adams cut
the W&L lead to 3-2 with 17:14 left, however, W&L tallied
two straight goals in less than 50 seconds to claim a 5-2 lead with
14:02 left. VWC then closed the half with five straight goals to
assume a 7-5 lead at halftime. Anne Marie Nash scored the Blue
Marlins final four goals during the run.
Taffe began the second half with her third goal of the contest at
the 27:58 mark. The Blue Marlins regained a two-goal lead (8-6)
with a score at the 23:30 mark, however, the Generals rattled off
four unanswered goals to claim a 10-8 lead with 16:11 left.
VWC sliced its deficit to one goal as Meagan DiCave tallied with
14:10 left. Taffe registered her fifth goal of the contest with
7:55 showing and DiCave rounded out the scoring with her second
goal of the half with four minutes to play.
Taffe led the Generals with five goals, while junior attacker
Leslie Bogart (Wilton, Conn./Wilton) tied her own school record
with six assists for the second consecutive game. Sophomore Joanna
Perini (Huntington, N.Y./Huntington) stopped three shots between
the pipes.
VWC (9-7, 4-4) was led by Nash who totaled five goals and one
assist. Meagan DiCave scored two goals and contributed an assist,
while Janine Swanson made 13 saves in the losing effort.
The Generals will next be in action when they host an ODAC
quarterfinal game on Wednesday afternoon.

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Washington and Lee sophomore midfielder Lee
Wheeler (Baltimore, Md./Bryn Mawr) scored two goals and assisted on
two others to lead the Generals to an 8-7 victory over Roanoke on
Thursday afternoon in ODAC women's lacrosse action at the Liberty
Hall Fields.
Roanoke assumed an early 1-0 lead as senior midfielder Leslie Hunt
(Baltimore, Md./Towson) scored one minute into the game. The
Generals responded with two goals in less than a minute to claim a
2-1 advantage. Wheeler scored W&L's first goal at the 20:28
mark, while freshman midfielder Kitt Murphy (Richmond, Va./St.
Catherines) tallied at the 19:48 mark off an assist from junior
attacker Leslie Bogart (Wilton, Conn./Wilton).
Following another goal by Hunt with 18:09 to play in the first
half, the Generals scored three unanswered goals to claim a 5-2
lead at halftime. Bogart, Murphy and senior defender Julie
Carskadon (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) recorded the goals for
W&L, while Wheeler assisted on two of the scores.
Wheeler scored her second goal of the contest just 45 seconds into
the second half to provide the Generals with a four-goal advantage
(6-2). Following a Maroon tally, senior midfielder Emily Owens
(Waco, Texas/Episcopal) netted a goal to give the Generals their
second four-goal cushion (7-3) with 21:52 to play. However, Roanoke
would go on to score three straight goals over the next four
minutes to cut its deficit to 7-6 with 16:46 remaining.
W&L sophomore midfielder Kelly Taffe (Charlottesville,
Va./Albemarle) scored with 11:09 left to extend her team's lead to
8-6 and Roanoke freshman midfielder Emily Hearn (Kennebunk,
Maine/Kennebunk) scored at the 3:31 mark to provide the final
outcome.
In addition to Wheeler's offensive output, Bogart finished with
one goal and two assists, while Murphy notched two goals. Bogart's
two assists give her 31 for the season, which breaks her own
W&L single-season record of 30 set during the 2000 season.

The Generals (7-4, 5-1) struck for all 16 goals in the opening half and took just one shot in the final 30 minutes of play.
Bogart led W&L with one goal and the six assists which tied the W&L single-game record held by Lisa Dowling '93 since the 1991 season. The Yellow Jackets (8-4, 6-1) broke open a 3-2 game with 8:03 remaining by scoring the final four goals of the first half and the first four goals of the second half for an 11-2 lead with 12:21 left in the game.

BRIDGEWATER, Va. -- Washington and Lee sophomore midfielder
Kelly Taffe (Charlottesville, Va./Albemarle) totaled five goals to
help lift the Generals to an 18-6 victory over Bridgewater in
women's lacrosse action on Wednesday afternoon.
The Generals assumed a 4-0 lead just eight minutes into the
contest and were never threatened the rest of the way as they
improved to 6-3 overall and 4-0 in the ODAC. The Eagles slipped to
4-6 overall, 2-3 in conference play.
In addition to Taffe's offensive outburst, junior attacker Leslie
Bogart (Wilton, Conn./Wilton) added two goals and three assists,
while sophomore midfielder Lee Wheeler (Baltimore, Md./Bryn Mawr)
and freshman midfielder Kitt Murphy (Richmond, Va./St. Catherines)
added three goals apiece. Wheeler also contributed an assist.
Sophomore goalkeeper Joanna Perini (Huntington, N.Y./Huntington)
started the contest, but was forced to leave five minutes into the
game due to an injury. Sophomore Annie Thompkins (Houston,
Texas/The Kinkaid School) completed the final 55 minutes and
registered four saves.
Bridgewater was paced offensively by sophomore Nell Bodani and
freshman Jennie Preto who each tallied two goals, while senior
Sarah Wyant dished out two assists. Sophomore Kristi Martin
recorded 13 saves in the net.
The Generals will be out of action until April 13 when they travel
to Randolph-Macon for a 3:00 pm game.

Red, 5-2 over the remainder of the first half to claim an 8-4
halftime advantage. Junior attacker Leslie Bogart (Wilton,

run.
W&L would extend its halftime advantage to 12-4 at the 17:57
mark by scoring the first four goals of the second half. Taffe and

tally made the score 12-5, the Generals rattled off three straight
goals, including a pair of tallies by sophomore attacker Stephanie

to 1-4.

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Ten different Washington and Lee players
scored to help lead the Generals to a 10-7 victory over Lynchburg
in ODAC women's lacrosse action on Wednesday afternoon at the
Liberty Hall Fields.
In a rematch of last year's ODAC Championship game, the Hornets
assumed a 2-0 lead six minutes into the contest on goals by
sophomore attacker Judy Garger (Fairfax, Va./Chantilly) and junior
attacker Linda Jack (Riva, Md./South River). Jack also assisted on
Garger's goal.
The Generals (4-3, 3-0) would respond with six unanswered goals to
end the first half with a 6-2 advantage. Sophomore midfielder Kelly
Taffe (Charlottesville, Va./Albemarle) and senior midfielders Emily
Owens (Waco, Texas/Episcopal) and Courtenay Fisher (Baltimore,
Md./Garrison Forest) each tallied goals on free possession shots
during the run.
Lynchburg (5-2, 3-1) sophomore attacker Beth Bicker (Centennial,
Co./Arapahoe) tallied a goal at the 28:53 mark of the second half
to cut the W&L lead to 6-3. However, W&L freshman
midfielder Kristen Brown (Baltimore, Md./Catonsville) scored at the
22:35 mark off an assist from Owens and freshman midfielder Erin
Rathbone (Darnestown, Md./Northwest) notched a tally with 13:27
left off an assist from junior attacker Leslie Bogart (Wilton,
Conn./Wilton) to give the Generals an 8-3 lead.
W&L sophomore Joanna Perini (Huntington, N.Y./Huntington) was
sensational between the pipes as she made 16 saves. Lynchburg
senior Jen McHugh (Bel Air, Md./Milton Wright) notched 13
saves.
Bogart finished the game with one goal and three assists, while
Wheeler and Owens added one goal and one assist each. Jack led the
Hornets with two goals and one assist. Freshman attacker Ali
Ballantyne (Summitt, N.J./Summitt) and junior midfielder Kim
Habicht (Baltimore, Md./Parkville) chipped in one goal and one
assist.

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Mary Washington jumped out to an 8-0 halftime lead and cruised to a 14-3 win over Washington and Lee in women's lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon at the Liberty Hall Fields.
The Eagles (3-2), ranked 12th nationally, were led by junior attacker Pam Kramer (Arlington, Va./Georgetown Visitation), who tallied two goals and four assists. Junior midfielder Kami McNinch (Stevensville, Md./Queen Anne's) recorded three goals and one assist, while senior midfielder Briana Gervat (Northport, N.Y./Northport) added two goals. Sophomore Tricia Marino (Ventnor, N.J./Lawrenceville) logged all 60 minutes in goal, recording 10 saves.
Washington and Lee (3-3), ranked 15th nationally, was led by freshman midfielder Kitt Murphy (Richmond, Va./St. Catherines) and senior midfielders Emily Owens (Waco, Texas/Episcopal) and Courtenay Fisher (Baltimore, Md./Garrison Forest), who each scored one goal. W&L WOMEN'S LACROSSE FALLS AT FRANKLIN & MARSHALL, 13-8
LANCASTER, Pa. -- Franklin and Marshall freshman midfielder
Alexis O'Meara and junior midfielder Lauren Paul tallied four goals
apiece to lead the 15th-ranked Diplomats to a 13-8 victory over
13th-ranked Washington and Lee in women's lacrosse action on
Saturday afternoon.
F&M (3-1) assumed a 4-0 lead just nine minutes into the
contest as Paul netted two goals, while O'Meara and junior attacker
Laura Fine each registered one.
The Generals (3-2) responded with back-to-back goals by sophomore
midfielder Kelly Taffe (Charlottesville, Va./Albemarle) and senior
defender Julie Carskadon (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) to bring
W&L within two goals at 4-2 with 11:32 to play in the first
half. However F&M freshman midfielder Allison O'Meara notched a
pair of goals to close out the half, while W&L junior attacker
Leslie Bogart (Wilton, Conn./Wilton) tallied one as the Diplomats
claimed a 6-3 lead at halftime.
In the second half, Alexis O'Meara extended the Diplomat lead to
7-3 with a goal just one minute into action. Taffe responded with
her second goal of the game at the 21:07 mark to cut the W&L
deficit back to three goals at 7-4.
However, that would be as close as the Generals would get as
Franklin & Marshall ripped off six straight goals over a
six-and-a-half minute span to assume a 13-4 advantage with 9:03 to
play.
The Generals rounded out the scoring with two goals from sophomore
midfielder Lee Wheeler (Baltimore, Md./Bryn Mawr) and single
tallies from Bogart and freshman midfielder Kristen Brown
(Baltimore, Md./Catonsville) over the final five minutes.
W&L sophomore Joanna Perini (Huntington, N.Y./Huntington)
recorded 10 saves, while F&M senior Madhavi Rao tallied eight
saves.

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Washington and Lee junior attacker Leslie
Bogart (Wilton, Conn./Wilton) tallied one goal and four assists as
the Generals rallied from a 4-1 halftime deficit to defeat
Nazareth, 8-7, in women's lacrosse action on Wednesday afternoon at
the Liberty Hall Fields. With her four assists, Bogart moved ahead
of Erika Snyder '97 to become the all-time assist leader in W&L
history. She now claims 65 career helpers.
The Golden Flyers (1-1) jumped out to a 3-0 lead midway through
the first half before Bogart put the Generals on the board with her
third goal of the season off an assist from senior defender Julie
Carskadon (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) with 7:01 to play. Nazareth
senior midfielder Ellen Fanning (Geneva, N.Y./DeSales) extended the
Golden Flyers lead to 4-1 with a tally at the 4:50 mark.
W&L cut its deficit to 4-3 four minutes into the second half
as Bogart assisted on goals by senior midfielder Emily Owens (Waco,
Texas/Episcopal) and freshman midfielder Kitt Murphy (Richmond,
Va./St. Catherines). However, Nazareth responded as junior defender
Teresa Zappia (Newark, N.Y./Newark) scored at the 20:32 mark and
junior midfielder Lorra Podsiadlo (Penn Yan, N.Y./Penn Yan) added a
tally with 19:09 to play to put the Golden Flyers ahead, 6-3.
The Generals (3-1) responded with five unanswered goals over the
next 12 minutes of play. Freshman midfielder Maggie Speasmaker
(Charlottesville, Va./St. Anne's) netted W&L's final two goals,
including an empty-net free possession shot on goal with 4:11 to
play to provide the Generals with an 8-6 lead.
Nazareth sophomore midfielder Shawna Kabot (Horseheads,
N.Y./Horseheads) tallied a goal with 54 seconds remaining, however,
W&L won the ensuing faceoff and ran out the clock to preserve
its comback victory.

LEXINGTON, Va. -- The 13th-ranked Washington and Lee women's
lacrosse team tallied 16 first half goals and held Guilford without
a shot for the entire game in cruising to a 22-0 victory on the
Liberty Hall Fields on Saturday afternoon.
The Generals (2-1, 2-0 ODAC) assumed an 8-0 lead midway through
the first half as senior attacker Emily Owens (Waco,
Texas/Episcopal) and sophomore midfielders Lee Wheeler (Baltimore,
Md./Bryn Maur) and Kelly Taffe (Charlottesville, Va./Albemarle)
each registered two goals apiece. Junior attacker Leslie Bogart
(Wilton, Conn./Wilton) tallied five assists on the Generals first
eight goals. Bogart also scored W&L's fifth goal of the
game.
W&L scored eight more goals in the final 12 minutes of the

The Seahawks (2-0) assumed a 3-0 lead with 14:07 remaining in the
first half as Schmoeller scored a pair of goals and sophomore
midfielder Meg McFall (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) notched one goal.
Sophomore midfielder Kelly Taffe (Charlottesville, Va./Albemarle)
cut the W&L deficit to 3-1 with 10:57 left in the first half as
she tallied her sixth goal of the season. However, the Seahawks
made it a three-goal game just 37 seconds later as freshman
midfielder Sarah Sloane (Baltimore, Md./St. Paul's School) tallied
her fourth goal of the season.
St. Mary's extended its lead to 5-1 as Schmoeller tallied her
third goal of the half with 4:56 to play. W&L again cut its
deficit to two goals (5-3) on goals from sophomore midfielder Lee
Wheeler (Baltimore, Md./Bryn Mawr) and senior attacker Emily Owens
(Waco, Texas/Episcopal). However, Schmoeller registered her fourth
goal of the first half with 34 seconds remaining to give the
Seahawks a 6-3 lead at the break.
The Seahawks gained a 7-3 lead with 15:46 left in the game on a

The Generals once again cut the lead to three goals (7-4) on a

Generals to a 23-5 victory over Sweet Briar in women's lacrosse
action on the Liberty Hall Fields on Wednesday afternoon.
The 14th-ranked Generals (1-0, 1-0) assumed a 5-0 lead just four
minutes into the contest before the Vixens scored with 25:57
remaining.
From that point on, W&L scored eight unanswered goals to
take a 13-1 lead with 14:40 left in the first half. Taffe tallied
four of her goals during that span, while Wheeler notched two of
her four.
After a Sweet Briar goal with 11:43 to play in the first half, the
Generals concluded the half with a pair of goals to assume a 15-2
lead at halftime.
