W&L'S SEASON ENDS WITH AN 8-4 LOSS TO LYNCHBURG (4/29)

ASHLAND, Va. -- Senior attacker Erin Campbell (White Plains, N.Y./Mamaroneck) scored four goals to help lead Lynchburg College to an 8-4 win over Washington and Lee in the semifinals of the ODAC Women's Lacrosse Tournament held at Randolph-Macon College on Saturday afternoon.

The Generals (8-5) were led by senior attacker Katherine Riddle (St. Clair Shores, Mich./University-Liggett), who tallied two goals on the day. She ends her career with 100 goals and 41 assists for 141 points.

Sophomore attacker Emily Owens (Waco, Texas/Episcopal) chipped in with one goal and one assist. Freshman attacker Leslie Bogart (Wilton, Conn./Wilton) claimed one assist on the day to push her season assist total to 30, breaking the single-season school-record held by Erika Snyder (29) since the 1996 season.

In addition to Campbell's exploits, Lynchburg (14-3) received additional offensive support from freshman attacker Lindsay Caruso (Darien, Conn./Darien), who tallied two goals and one assist.

Senior Ginny Jernigan (Orlando, Fla./Dr. Phillips) made nine saves in goal, pushing her career total to 505 saves. She finishes her career second in W&L history in that category.

Sophomore Jen McHugh (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) posted 17 saves in goal for the Hornets. W&L outshot Lynchburg, 26-22, in the contest.

W&L FALLS TO WASHINGTON COLLEGE, 10-5 (4/22)

CHESTERTOWN, Md. -- Washington College's Jordan Holt and Maggie Kilroy tallied five points each to help lead the Shoremen to a 10-5 non-conference victory over Washington and Lee on Saturday afternoon.

Holt scored five goals in the contest, while Kilroy scored two goals and assisted on three others. Kristin Bozzella tallied one goal and one assist for Washington College (11-1).

The Generals were led offensively by junior attacker Ellen Ritsch (Richmond, Va./Collegiate), who scored three goals. Sophomore midfielder Courtenay Fisher (Baltimore, Md./Garrison Forest) and sophomore attacker Emily Owens (Waco, Texas/Episcopal) each scored one goal, while freshman attacker Leslie Bogart (Wilton, Conn./Wilton) notched one assist.

Senior Ginny Jernigan (Orlando, Fla./Dr. Phillips) recorded 12 saves in goal for the Generals (8-4), who were outshot 26-14 in the contest.

Washington and Lee's regular-season is now over and the Generals will wait to see who they will play in the ODAC Tournemant. W&L will be the No. 2 seed and receives a first round bye in the tournament.

W&L CRUISES BY BRIDGEWATER, 14-2 (4/19)

BRIDGEWATER, Va. -- Freshman attacker Leslie Bogart (Wilton, Conn/Wilton) amassed four goals and two assists in leading the Washington and Lee women's lacrosse team to a 14-2 victory over Bridgewater College on Wednesday afternoon.

W&L (8-3, 7-1 ODAC) wasted no time in jumping ahead as sophomore midfielder Emily Owens (Waco, Texas/Episcopal) notched the first of her two tallies with just :26 seconds gone-by. Freshman midfielder Sarah Janowitz (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) followed Owens' marker with a goal of her own just :41 seconds later, increasing the W&L lead to 2-0. The Generals scored six additional goals for an 8-0 lead before Bridgewater was able to crack the scoreboard with a goal at the 10:27 mark of the first. W&L carried a 9-1 lead into the halftime break.

In the second half, the Generals once again struck first with a Bogart unassisted goal at the 24:48 mark. The freshman tallied two more second half goals and assisted on another as W&L eased to the 12-goal victory. Senior Ginny Jernigan (Orlando, Fla./Dr. Phillips) stopped 12 Bridgewater shots on the day while claiming the win in goal.

The Generals will return to action on Saturday, April 22nd, as they wrap up their regular-season schedule with a trip to Washington College (Md.). The game is set to begin at 1:00 pm.

NORFOLK, Va. -- Freshman attacker Laura Wilson (Atlanta, Ga./Westminster) amassed four goals and one assist in leading the Washington and Lee women's lacrosse team to a 15-9 victory over Virginia Wesleyan in Norfolk on Saturday afternoon.

Despite playing in a downpour throughout nearly the entire contest, W&L (7-3, 6-1 ODAC) was able to put together one of its' strongest offensive efforts of the season. The Generals jumped out to a 6-4 halftime advantage before connecting for nine second-half tallies en route to the six-goal margin of victory. Aside from Wilson, W&L was led by senior attacker Katherine Riddle (St. Clair Shores, Mich./Univ. Liggett) with three goals and three assists. Other players amassing noteworthy offensive statistics for the Generals included freshman Leslie Bogart (Wilton, Conn./Wilton) with two goals and two assists, along with sophomores Emily Owens (Waco, Texas/Episcopal) and Courtenay Fisher (Baltimore, Md./Garrison Forest), each with two goals. Senior Ginny Jernigan (Orlando, Fla./Dr. Phillips) made eight saves in goal for W&L.

RIDDLE PACES W&L LAXERS IN 18-3 ROUT OF SWEET BRIAR (4/10)

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Senior attacker Katherine Riddle (St. Clair Shores, Mich./Univ. Liggett) amassed four goals and three assists to help lead Washington and Lee to an 18-3 victory of Sweet Briar College in ODAC women's lacrosse action on Monday afternoon.

W&L (6-3, 5-1 ODAC) opened a quick 4-0 lead before the Vixens were able to get on the scoreboard with a goal by Allison Funkhouser. The lead swelled to 11-1 at the half, thanks in large part to three goals and two assists by freshman attacker Leslie Bogart (Wilton, Conn./Wilton). The Generals continued their run deep into the second half, as they scored six unanswered goals to push the lead to 17-1 with 9:10 remaining in the contest. Casey Perlow notched two goals for SBC (3-7, 1-4 ODAC) in the final seven minutes of the game.

Alongside Riddle and Bogart in leading the W&L offense was sophomore midfielder Emily Owens (Waco, Texas/Episcopal) with four goals. Freshman attacker Laura Wilson (Atlanta, Ga./Westminster) added three goals and one assist, while sophomore Courtenay Fisher (Baltimore, Md./Garrison Forest) notched two goals and dished out two assists. Senior Ginny Jernigan (Orlando, Fla./Dr. Phillips) made nine saves in goal for the Generals. SBC goalkeeper Ingrid Zenson stopped eight W&L shots on the day.

BOGART AND RIDDLE LEAD W&L PAST GUILFORD, 13-4 (4/9)

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Freshman attacker Leslie Bogart (Wilton, Conn./Wilton) and senior attacker Katherine Riddle (St. Clair Shores, Mich./Univ. Liggett) each notched four goals and one assist to help lead Washington and Lee to a 13-4 win in Old Dominion Athletic Conference women's lacrosse action.

Bogart opened the scoring just 2:46 into the contest when she notched an unassisted goal to give the Generals (5-3, 4-1 ODAC) a 1-0 lead. W&L would increase the lead to 4-0 over the next 13:09, with Bogart adding another goal and assist in the stretch. Anne Scharff got Guilford (1-8, 0-5 ODAC) on the board at the 12:22 mark with an unassisted goal, making the score 4-1 in the Generals' favor. Riddle scored the final two goals of the opening stanza to give W&L a 6-1 halftime lead.

The Quakers scored first in the second frame, narrowing the lead to 6-2 on an unassisted goal by Melissa Urann at the 29:22 mark. From there, W&L would outscore GC by a 7-1 margin over the next 22 minutes in cruising to the win.

Aside from Bogart and Riddle, W&L received strong offensive outputs from several other players. Sophomore Courtenay Fisher (Baltimore, Md./Garrison Forest) notched two goals on the day, while senior Jennifer Strawbridge (Houston, Texas/Westfield) tallied her first career goal. Senior Ginny Jernigan (Orlando, Fla./Dr. Phillips) made 12 saves in goal for the Generals. GC had four players score one goal apiece.

W&L will return to action tomorrow, as it hosts Sweet Briar College in a 4:30 pm contest.

BOGART KEYS W&L PAST ROANOKE, 13-8 (3/28)

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Freshman attacker Leslie Bogart (Wilton, Conn./Wilton) scored four goals and assisted on another in leading Washington and Lee to a 13-8 victory over Roanoke College in ODAC women's lacrosse action.

Sophomore midfielder Julie Carskadon (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) netted the first of her two goals with just 5:32 gone-by to put the Generals ahead 1-0. Junior midfielder Ellen Ritsch (Richmond, Va./Collegiate) and Bogart followed with goals of their own increasing the Generals' lead to 3-0. Sophomore midfielder Leslie Hunt (Baltimore, Md./Towson) got the Maroons on the board with 14:22 remaining in the first, narrowing the margin to 3-1. From there, the teams battled into halftime with W&L (4-3, 3-1 ODAC) ahead by a score of 7-4.

Bogart took control of the contest at the onset of the second half, scoring each of the Generals' first two goals. Senior goalkeeper Ginny Jernigan (Orlando, Fla./Dr. Phillips) helped make the W&L lead stand, as she stopped 12 Roanoke shots on the day. Roanoke senior netminder Debbie Apazidis (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) made ten saves in goal for the Maroons (3-3, 1-2 ODAC).

Aside from Bogart, W&L was led in scoring by Carskadon and senior attacker Katherine Riddle (St. Clair Shores, Mich./Univ. Liggett), each with two goals and one assist. Roanoke was led in scoring by junior midfielder Kylie Wernert (Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich), who amassed four goals and one assist.

MWC HANDS W&L FIRST HOME LOSS (3/25)

LEXINGTON, Va. -- The fifth-ranked Mary Washington women's lacrosse team handed Washington and Lee its first home loss of the season on Saturday, downing the Generals by a 16-6 margin.

W&L (3-3) opened the scoring when freshman Laura Wilson (Atlanta, Ga./Westminster) found the net just 9:25 into the first half. The Generals increased the lead when freshman Leslie Bogart (Wilton, Conn./Wilton) scored off an assist from sophomore midfielder Julie Carskadon (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) at the 18:34 mark. From there, the Eagles would notch five unanswered goals en route to a 6-3 halftime advantage.

MWC (6-0) caught fire in the second half, erupting for 10 goals. W&L hung close for the majority of the half, trailing only 11-6 with 11:35 to go, but the Eagles scored five straight goals in the final 10:12 for the double-digit margin of victory.

For the game, the Eagles outshot W&L by a count of 39-27. W&L senior Ginny Jernigan (Orlando, Fla./Dr. Phillips) tallied 15 saves in goal. MWC was led in scoring by senior midfielder Diane Grimm, who notched four goals. The Eagles spread the wealth as five players tallied two goals each in the contest. F&M HANDS W&L SECOND LOSS (3/18)

LANCASTER, Pa. -- The Franklin & Marshall women's lacrosse team handed Washington and Lee its second loss of the season on Saturday, downing the visiting Generals by a 10-6 margin.

F&M jumped out to an early 2-0 lead before W&L could tally a goal. Sophomore Courtenay Fisher (Balitmore, Md./Garrison Forest) got the Generals on the board with an unassisted goal at the 22:22 mark of the first half. Freshmen Laura Wilson (Atlanta, Ga./Westminster) and Leslie Bogart (Wilton, Conn./Wilton) then tallied goals just :44 seconds apart to give W&L what proved to be its only lead of the contest at 3-2. The Diplomats rallied, scoring the final three goals of the first half for a 5-3 lead at the break.

F&M continued its streak at the onset of the second half, notching the first two goals for a 7-3 lead. W&L senior Katherine Riddle (St. Clair Shores, Mich./Univ. Liggett) connected for two second half goals, but the Generals could never climb back into the game.

For the game, the Diplomats outshot W&L by a count of 22-21. W&L senior Ginny Jernigan (Orlando, Fla./Dr. Phillips) tallied 12 saves in goal to help keep the Generals within striking distance. Kim Kelly and Laura Fine led F&M with three goals apiece.

RITSCH'S TWO GOALS LEAD W&L PAST LYNCHBURG

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Junior attacker Ellen Ritsch (Richmond, Va./Collegiate) tallied two goals less than one minute apart to break a 3-3 deadlock with 11:08 remaining and propel the Washington and Lee women's lacrosse team to a 5-3 victory over visiting Lynchburg College.

Lynchburg (3-1-1, 1-1 ODAC) jumped to an early 1-0 lead when sophomore Jodi Graul (Alexandria, Va./Thomas Edison) netted an unassisted goal just 8:46 into the contest. W&L quickly answered, however, as sophomore Courtenay Fisher (Baltimore, Md./Garrison Forest) connected for two unassisted goals, giving the Generals a 2-1 lead entering the halftime break.

W&L (3-1, 2-1 ODAC) increased its lead to 3-1 just :52 seconds into the second half when freshman Laura Wilson (Atlanta, Ga./Westminster) scored off an assist from senior Katherine Riddle (St. Clair Shores, Mich./University Liggett). The Hornets retaliated, eventually tying the contest at 3-3 on an Erin Campbell (White Plains, N.Y./Mamaroneck) goal with 13:40 remaining in regulation. With the score knotted, Ritsch fired home the game-winner at the 11:08 mark, giving the Generals a 4-3 lead. Her second goal came just :55 seconds later.

Senior Ginny Jernigan (Orlando, Fla./Dr. Phillips) had a stellar game in goal for W&L, stopping 15 Hornet shots. Lynchburg also received a solid effort from its netminder as sophomore Jen McHugh (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) produced 14 saves.

W&L will return to action on March 18, when it travels to Franklin & Marshall College for a 2:00 pm matchup.

R-MC HANDS W&L WOMEN FIRST LOSS OF SEASON

ASHLAND, Va. -- The Washington and Lee women's lacrosse team suffered its first defeat of the season at the hands of the Randolph-Macon Yellow Jackets by a score of 13-8 on Saturday afternoon.

R-MC (4-0, 3-0 ODAC) jumped to a 5-1 halftime lead behind four goals from senior Carrie Winkler. The Yellow Jackets extended the lead in the second half, outscoring the Generals 8-7 for the five-goal victory. For the game, Winkler tallied seven goals to lead R-MC, while W&L was spurred by senior Katherine Riddle (St. Clair Shores, Mich./University Liggett), sophomore Emily Owens (Waco, Texas/Episcopal), and freshman Laura Wilson (Atlanta, Ga./Westminster), each of whom connected for two goals.

The Yellow Jackets outshot Washington and Lee 33-21 on the game. Senior goalkeeper Ginny Jernigan (Orlando, Fla./Dr. Phillips) made 13 saves to keep the Generals (2-1, 1-1 ODAC) in the game.

W&L will return to action on March 15, when it hosts Lynchburg College in a 4:00 pm matchup on the Liberty Hall Fields.

W&L DOWNS DENISON IN HOME OPENER, 18-10

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Senior attacker Katherine Riddle (St. Clair Shores, Mich./ University-Liggett) and junior attacker Ellen Ritsch (Richmond, Va./Collegiate) each tallied five goals in leading the Washington and Lee women's lacrosse team to an 18-10 victory over visiting Denison University on Saturday afternoon.

Denison (0-1) jumped out to an early 2-1 lead just 8:42 into the contest, but W&L (2-0) reeled off six straight goals, staking claim to a 7-2 lead with 3:53 remaining in the first half. The Generals (2-0) took an 8-5 lead into halftime. Coming out of the break, W&L scored five consecutive goals, assuming a 13-5 lead with 24:00 remaining. From there, the Generals would cruise to the win.

Freshman attacker Leslie Bogart (Wilton, Conn./Wilton) continued her stellar play for W&L, notching two goals and dishing out a game-high four assists. Fellow freshman Laura Wilson (Atlanta, Ga./Westminster) amassed two goals as well.

Denison was led by junior midfielder Amy Hemmelgarn who scored a team-high three goals. Junior attacker Laura Peace, sophomore attacker Lea Disston, and freshman attacker Stephanie Pratzner each chipped in with two goals apiece for the Big Red.

Senior goalkeeper Ginny Jernigan (Orlando, Fla./Dr. Phillips) made 10 saves in goal for the Generals.

W&L will return to action on Saturday, March 11, when it travels to Randolph-Macon for a 1:00 pm contest.

BOGART LEADS W&L PAST HOLLINS IN WOMEN'S LAX SEASON OPENER, 9-5

HOLLINS, Va. -- Freshman Leslie Bogart (Wilton, Conn./Wilton) tallied three first-half goals to lead the Washington and Lee women's lacrosse team to a 9-5 win over Hollins University in its season opener.

W&L (1-0) opened a 5-0 lead before Chelsea Dreyer got homestanding Hollins (1-1) on the board with 2:58 left in the first half. Bogart opened the scoring for W&L just 4:03 into the game. Junior Ellen Ritch (Richmond, Va./Collegiate) tallied the second goal for the Generals just 2:34 later. Bogart then pushed the lead to 3-0 with 21:09 left in the half. Ritsch and Bogart each scored again before Dreyer's tally.

In the second half, Hollins was able to chop into the Generals' lead, but goals by sophomore Emily Owens (Waco, Texas/Episcopal) and senior Katherine Riddle (St. Clair Shores, Mich./Univ. Leggett) put W&L's lead out of reach. Freshman Laura Wilson (Atlanta, Ga./Westminster) also notched a goal in the win while senior goalkeeper Ginny Jernigan (Orlando, Fla./Dr. Phillips) tallied nine saves.

W&L will return to action on Saturday when it hosts Denison University in a 1:00 pm contest.
