GRAND LAKE, Colo. — The Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association released its 2018 IWLCA Zag Sports Academic Honor Squad awards and Honor Roll recipients on Monday, and the Generals had seven individuals honored and also received the team laurel.
Recent graduates Jess Castelo (Red Bank, N.J./Lawrenceville), Haley Rising (Henrico, Va./Collegiate) and Lexi Sortisio (Arnold, Md./Broadneck), and rising seniors Ellie Aburn (Towson, Md./Notre Dame Prep), Emily Carden (Charlottesville, Va./St. Anne's-Belfield), Cordelia Peters (Larkspur, Calif./Hotchkiss) and Haley Tucker (Manakin-Sabot, Va./St. Catherine's) were the W&L athletes that each earned a spot on the IWLCA Honor Roll. They were among 639 student-athletes from 189 institutions to receive the accolade at the Division III level.
To be eligible for this honor, student-athletes must be a junior, senior or graduate student and have a cumulative academic GPA of 3.50 or greater.
A total of 339 schools across Division I, II, III and NAIA garnered IWLCA Honor Squad recognition. To qualify, a team must have posted a 3.0 or higher team GPA for the academic year.
Washington and Lee completed the 2018 season with a 16-5 overall record and an 8-0 conference mark. The Generals claimed the program's ninth straight conference title and 19th overall ODAC crown. W&L fell to York (Pa.), 10-3, in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
