W&L's Castelo and Garcia Selected to Participate in Senior All-Star Game

GRAND LAKE, Colo. – The Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) released the rosters for the 2018 Division III Senior All-Star Game on Friday afternoon and Washington and Lee had two players named to the south squad.

Senior attacker Jess Castelo (Red Bank, N.J. / Lawrenceville) and senior defender Riley Garcia (Manhasset, N.Y. / Manhasset) are two of 22 players who will compete for the south team in the game, which will be held on Saturday, June 2 at 2:30 pm at Tierney Field at US Lacrosse Headquarters in Sparks, Md.

The ODAC Offensive Player of the Year, and first team all-conference and all-region honoree, Castelo started 20 games during her senior campaign. She ranked second on the team with 43 goals and 66 points, while her 23 assists were fourth. Additionally, she picked up 25 ground balls and won 16 draw controls.

A team captain, Castelo finished her career with 126 career goals, which ranks sixth in program history. She also tallied 176 points, which is tied for eighth in W&L history. Castelo also dished out 50 assists over her four years.

A two-time First Team All-ODAC honoree and a team captain, Garcia started 20 games for the Generals' defensive unit. She led the team with 39 ground balls and 33 caused turnovers. The first team all-region selection registered a season-high five ground balls and four caused turnovers in an 18-5 victory at Bridgewater.

Garcia finished her career with 82 caused turnovers, which ranks ninth in program history. She also picked up 105 ground balls and won 16 draw controls. She earned third team all-conference honors during her rookie campaign.

This is the second straight year that the Generals have had two players selected to participate in the Senior All-Star Game.

Washington and Lee completed the 2018 season with a 16-5 overall record and an 8-0 conference mark. The Generals claimed the program's ninth straight conference title and 19th overall ODAC crown. W&L fell to York (Pa.), 10-3, in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
