GRAND LAKE, Colo. – The Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) announced its 2017 IWLCA Zag Sports Academic Honor teams and Honor Roll on Wednesday, and Washington and Lee was one of the teams honored, while seven Generals earned a spot on the honor roll.
There were a total of 300 schools across Divisions I, II, III and the NAIA that received this recognition. To qualify for this award, a team must have posted a 3.0 or higher team GPA for the 2016-17 school year.
Recent graduates Sara Holland (Houston, Texas / M.B. Lamar), Olivia Sisson (Great Falls, Va. / Langley), Hayley Soutter (McLean, Va. / Langley), and Hollis Tardy (Dallas, Texas / The Hockaday School), and rising seniors Jess Castelo (Red Bank, N.J. / Lawrenceville), Haley Rising (Henrico, Va. / Collegiate) and Lexi Sortisio (Arnold, Md. / Broadneck) were among the 531 student-athletes from 156 different Division III institutions that were honored.
In order to be eligible, a student-athlete must be a junior, senior, or graduate student and have earned a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher.
The Generals finished the 2017 campaign with a 19-2 overall record, which set a new program record for victories in a season. The Blue and White captured its eighth-straight ODAC title and advanced to the NCAA Semifinals for the first time in program history, before falling to TCNJ, 5-4, in double overtime.
