GRAND LAKE, Colo. – The Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) released its 2018 Division III All-America teams on Wednesday and Washington and Lee senior attacker Jess Castelo (Red Bank, N.J. / Lawrenceville) was named to the third team.
Castelo's selection to the All-America teams marks the 16th time in the last 18 years that the Generals have claimed at least one All-America selection. It was also the first All-America citation of Castelo's career.
Castelo was named First Team All-ODAC and the ODAC Offensive Player of the Year in 2018 after starting 20 contests and finishing second on the team in scoring with 66 points on 43 goals and 23 assists. She also picked up 25 ground balls and won 16 draw controls for the Generals.
A First Team All-Chesapeake Region and VaSID First Team All-State selection this spring, Castelo also participated in the prestigious IWLCA Senior All-Star game after her playing career ended. A team captain in 2018, she finished her career with 126 career goals, which ranks sixth in program history. She also tallied 176 points, which is tied for eighth in W&L lore. Castelo also dished out 50 assists over her four years.
Washington and Lee completed the 2018 season with a 16-5 overall record and an 8-0 conference mark. The Generals claimed the program's ninth straight conference title and 19th overall ODAC crown. W&L fell to York (Pa.), 10-3, in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
