ARLINGTON, Va. – The Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) announced its 2017 College Division All-State Women's Lacrosse team recently and Washington and Lee had five players honored, while Head Coach Brooke O'Brien was selected as Coach of the Year.
Senior attacker Hayley Soutter (McLean, Va. / Langley), sophomore midfielder Haley Tucker (Manakin-Sabot, Va. / St. Catherine's), senior midfielder Olivia Sisson (Great Falls, Va. / Langley) and senior defender Parker Hamill (Darien, Conn. / Darien) all earned first team accolades. First-year goalkeeper Elliot Gilbert (Bedford, N.Y. / Deerfield Academy) was named to the second team.
O'Brien was selected as the Coach of the Year for the second time in her career after leading the Generals to a 19-2 overall record. W&L captured its eighth-straight ODAC title and advanced to the NCAA Semifinals for the first time in program history.
The ODAC Player of the Year and a first team all-conference honoree, Soutter started all 21 games for the Generals. A team captain, Soutter led W&L with 41 goals and 58 points. Additionally, she registered 17 assists, 22 ground balls, 17 caused turnovers and seven draw controls. Soutter also earned First Team All-America and all-region honors earlier this season.
Tucker is a two-time first team all-conference selection and earned first team all-region honors earlier this season, after posting a team-high 103 draw controls. She also recorded 50 points on 37 goals and 13 assists. The First Team All-American also picked up 23 ground balls and caused 14 turnovers.
A first team all-conference and all-region honoree, Sisson started 20 contests in the Generals' midfield. She was tied for first on the team with 37 ground balls, while also tallying 38 points on 27 goals and 11 assists. An IWLCA Senior All-Star game participant, Sisson also ranked second on the team with 19 caused turnovers and 32 draw controls.
A Third Team All-American, Hamill played a major role for the W&L defense that ranked second in Division III with a 4.14 goals-against average and held opponents to single-digit goal totals in 20 contests. She also posted 25 ground balls, 11 caused turnovers and three draw controls. Hamill earned first team all-region honors and participated in the IWLCA Senior All-Star game earlier this spring.
Gilbert started 20 games during her rookie season in goal. She finished the season ranked second in the nation with a 4.07 goals-against average, while also recording a 52.6 save percentage. She posted 71 saves, 33 ground balls and 14 caused turnovers. Gilbert was named to the Women's Lacrosse All-Tournament team and earned Second Team All-ODAC honors earlier this spring.
Christopher Newport senior Meaghan Galvin earned Player of the Year honors, while Morgan Barlow of Roanoke garnered Rookie of the Year accolades.
