W&L Women's Lacrosse Cruises to a 20-0 Win Over Hollins

Roanoke, Va. – The No. 11 Washington and Lee women's lacrosse team improved to 9-0 in ODAC action with a 20-0 victory over Hollins on Thursday afternoon.

Senior attacker Greta Witter (Houston, Texas / The Hill School) jumpstarted the scoring with a goal at the 24:58 mark to put the Generals ahead early in the contest (1-0). W&L (13-2, 9-0) went on to score 12 unanswered goals over the closing minutes of the first period to go into the intermission with a 13-0 advantage. Senior attacker Margaret Klein (North Andover, Mass. / Brooks), along with first-year attackers Lindsay Hanau (Broxville, N.Y. / Westminster School) and Lauren Procaccino (Manhasset, N.Y. / Manhasset) led the attack with two goals apiece during the run.

Sophomore attacker Carly Taglienti (Moorestown, N.J. / Moorestown) began the second stanza with a tally in the first minute of play, igniting a strong offensive movement by the Generals who scored seven goals in the final 30:00 and cruised to the win.

For the game, the Generals held an advantage in shots (32-1), ground balls (25-17), and draw controls (13-8). W&L was also a perfect 8-of-8 on clear attempts.

Junior Cara Mulligan (Glen Ridge, N.J. / Glen Ridge) and senior Kingsley Schroeder (Dayton, Ohio / Westminster School/Miami Valley) split time in goal for the Generals. Mulligan finished the game with one save. Senior Maddie Horton played the entire game in net for Hollins (1-11. 0-10), finishing the game with seven saves. 

Procaccino led the Generals' offense with two goals and two assists, while Witter and Hanau each recorded three goals in the win. First-year Olivia Sisson (Great Falls, Va. / Langley) led the defense with two ground balls and three caused turnovers.

Sophomore midfielder Rikki Martinez recorded four ground balls and five draw controls for Hollins. 

Head Coach Brooke O'Brien is now just three wins away from reaching the 100 career wins milestone. Over her seven seasons at the helm, she has recorded a 97-35 (.734) overall record.

Washington and Lee will be back in action on Saturday when it travels to Bridgewater for it last regular season game. Action is set to start at 12:00 pm.
