W&L's Stone Garners IWLCA All-America Honors
GRAND LAKE, Colo. – Washington and Lee junior women's lacrosse player Leanne Stone (Darien, Conn./Darien) has been selected to the 2013 Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Division III All-America team, announced on Thursday.
Stone was chosen for Third Team All-America honors, with this being her first career All-America accolade.
Earlier this season, she was also awarded First Team All-ODAC and First Team All-Chesapeake Region laurels.
Stone appeared in all 19 games this season with 18 starts as a defender. She paced a back third that recorded the second-best goals-against average in the league (8.80) and allowed opponents to score just 178 goals. Stone led the Generals with 57 ground balls and 25 caused turnovers, including four ground balls and three caused turnovers in the NCAA Tournament first round contest.
W&L ended its 2013 campaign with a 10-10 overall record after falling to York (Pa.), 13-6, in NCAA Division III first round action. The Generals claimed the program's 14th Old Dominion Athletic Conference Championship this spring, earning the conference's automatic bid to the tournament.
