ROANOKE, Va. – The 14th-ranked Washington and Lee women's lacrosse team held Hollins scoreless in a 22-0 victory to open the Generals ODAC action on Tuesday afternoon in Roanoke.
W&L (4-2) boasted a 17-0 lead after the first 30 minutes with eleven different Generals recording a goal, including multiple tallies by sophomore attackers Margaret Klein (North Andover, Mass./Brooks), Katie Hagen (West Chester, Pa./Notre Dame), and Greta Witter (Douglasville, Pa./The Hill School), and first-year midfielder Kirby Taylor (Glenwood, Md./Glenelg). Klein notched four goals, Hagen scored three, and Witter and Taylor added two goals apiece. The Generals used the second period to increase their advantage and cruise to the 22-0 triumph.
Hagen paced W&L with six points on four goals and two assists in the contest. Klein also recorded four goals and handed out an assist, and Taylor completed her first game as a General with three goals and a helper. Senior midfielder Christina Benedetti (Derwood, Md./Academy of the Holy Cross) and sophomore midfielder Alex Van Horn (Annapolis, Md./Annapolis) grabbed five and four draw controls, respectively, and first-year midfielder Sarah Gray Erickson (Greenwood Village, Colo./Cherry Creek) and sophomore midfielder Meade Brewster (Brookside, N.J./West Morris Mendham) each picked up three ground balls.
First-year Cara Mulligan (Glen Ridge, N.J./Glen Ridge) spent the entire game in net for the Generals, saving five shots and claiming the shutout.
W&L returns to action on Saturday when it hosts No. 17 Catholic for a 1:00 pm contest.
