W&L Women's Lacrosse Earns IWLCA Merit Academic Team Status

GRAND LAKE, Colo. – The Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association released its 2010 Academic Squads and Washington and Lee University was among the 64 Division III women’s lacrosse programs recognized.

The Generals earned the association’s Merit status after finishing among the Top 3 schools in Division III for team grade-point average (GPA) during the 2010 season.  W&L finished second with a 3.458 GPA, just behind Bates College’s total of 3.470.  Vassar College was the third Merit squad with a 3.410. 

The Generals also ranked fifth overall out of all NCAA Divisions.  Hofstra University posted the highest team GPA (3.599), followed by Stanford University (3.477), Duke University (3.471), Bates (3.470) and W&L (3.458).

W&L was among 64 Division III programs to earn Academic Squad honors for producing a Team GPA of 3.0 or higher for the 2010 season.  Other ODAC squads to make the list included Bridgewater College, Lynchburg College and Virginia Wesleyan College.

Washington and Lee concluded the 2010 season with a 14-5 overall record and a perfect 8-0 record in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference.  The Generals won the conference tournament title and advanced to the first round of the NCAA Division III Tournament.
