LEXINGTON, Va. – Washington and Lee Head Coach Brooke Diamond earned her 50th career victory as the women's lacrosse team cruised past Sweet Briar, 21-0, on Wednesday afternoon at Watt Field.
In her fourth season at the helm of the Generals, Diamond is now 50-17 overall and 26-1 in ODAC play.
W&L (6-4, 3-0 ODAC) took command of the game in the first half and never looked back, as it entered the break with a 15-0 advantage. Eight different Generals found the net during the opening 30 minutes, led by first-year attacker Margaret Klein (North Andover, Mass./Brooks) who tallied four goals. First-year attacker Katie Hagen (West Chester, Pa./Notre Dame) added three goals, while senior attacker Kate Speare (Wallingford, Pa./Strath Haven) contributed one goal and three assists.
The Generals added six goals in the second stanza as it cruised to the 21-0 victory and 15th-consecutive ODAC regular season win.
W&L received career performances from three first-year players, as Klein finished with a career-high six points (4g, 2a), while first-year midfielder Meredith Lavin (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks East) added a career-best four points (1g, 3a) and Hagen tied a career-high with four points (4g). Sophomore midfielder Ashley Barnes (Annapolis, Md./St. Mary's) chipped in a career-high four points (3g, 1a), while Speare contributed a season-high four points (1g, 3a).
For the Vixens, first-year keeper Maddi Boudreau (Annapolis, Md.) recorded six saves in the loss. Senior defender Kristen Green (Manassas, Va./Osbourn Park) collected a team-high three ground balls.
The Generals return to action on Saturday as they host Virginia Wesleyan for their annual Friends of Jaclyn game at 2:30 pm at Watt Field.
