W&L Women's Lax Cruises to 20-4 Victory over Bridgewater

BRIDGEWATER, Va. – Junior attacker Ellie Van Sant (Chevy Chase, Md./The Taft School) recorded three goals and an assist to lead the 16th-ranked Washington and Lee women’s lacrosse team to a 20-4 victory over Bridgewater College in ODAC action on Tuesday afternoon.

The Generals (2-1, 1-0 ODAC) recorded eight unanswered goals to open up the first half and never looked back in claiming their first ODAC victory of the season over the Eagles (2-1, 0-1 ODAC).

Ellie Van Sant led the Generals with three goals and one assist, while junior attacker Wilton Megargel (Charlottesville, Va./St. Anne's-Belfield) also chipped in three goals. Junior attacker Kate Speare (Wallingford, Pa./Strath Haven), senior attacker Britten Mathews (Richmond, Va./Collegiate), sophomore attacker Maddie McKaig (Annapolis, Md./Annapolis), junior midfielder Kate Donnely (Houston, Texas/St. John's School) and first-year midfielder Ashley Barnes (Annapolis, Md./St. Mary's) all added two goals. Bridgewater was led by Kate Moulton, who notched two goals.

Junior goalkeeper Katharine Farrar (Lexington, Va./Episcopal) played 43:35 in net, recording two saves and two goals against in recording the win. First-year goalkeeper Alex Hamill (Darien, Conn./Darien) saw 16:25 in goal, also recording two saves while allowing two goals. Bridgewater goalkeeper Colleen Schwind played all 60:00 in net, allowing 20 goals while stopping 15 shots.

The Generals will return to action on Saturday as they travel to No. 1 Franklin & Marshall for a 12:00 pm contest.
