HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. – The Washington and Lee women's golf team finished in third-place out of 14 teams at the Division III Preview held on Sunday and Monday at the Mission Inn Resort.
NYU finished as the team champion with a +22 score of 298-308—606. Carnegie Mellon placed second with a 322-317—639 (+55), while W&L shot a 323-318--641 (+57). Berry College was fourth (327-315—642, +58) and Huntingdon was fifth (328-315—643, +59).
Berry's Jorie Hodapp and NYU's Arisa Kimura tied for medalist honors, as both shot a +2 score of 148.
W&L senior Mary-Frances Hall (State Road, N.C. / Elkin) placed fifth overall out of 77 golfers after shooting the low round of 71 on Monday. She completed the two-day event with a +5 score of 80-71—151.
First-year Hannah Jones (Atlanta, Ga. / Blessed Trinity) placed in a tie for 23rd with an 85-77—162 (+16), while classmate Beth Ann Townsend (Greenville, N.C. / Travelers Rest) and sophomore Griffin Foultz (San Antonio, Texas / St. Mary's Hall) both tied for 25th. Townsend carded a 79-84—163 (+17) and Foultz shot 84-79—163 (+17).
Senior Liza Freed (Alexandria, Va. / St. Stephen's & St. Agnes) finished in a tie for 33rd with a 79-86—165 (+19) and senior Dana Droz (Lancaster, Pa. / Veritas Academy) finished 76th with a 95-94—189 (+43).
Washington and Lee returns to action on October 2-3 when it hosts the Generals Invitational at the Lexington Golf & Country Club.
