W&L Women's Basketball Topples Randolph, 61-50

LEXINGTON, Va. – Sophomore guard Emily Perszyk (Greendale, Wis. / Greendale) scored all of her team-best 14 points in the second half to help lead Washington and Lee to a 61-50 victory over Randolph in ODAC women's basketball action on Wednesday evening at the Warner Center.

Randolph (4-16, 2-9) came out of the locker room hot, hitting 8-of-16 (.500) shots from the floor to assume a 20-11 lead following the first quarter of play.

The Generals' (11-9, 6-5) defense tightened in the second period, limiting the WildCats to just 2-of-10 (.200) from the field in the quarter and using a 12-2 run to draw even at 24-24 with 2:21 left in the half.  W&L eventually took the lead for good (29-27) on a three-pointer by senior guard Paige Corvino (Clarendon Hills, Ill. / Fenwick) with 1:03 left before the break.  Corvino scored six points in the second frame to give W&L a 29-28 lead at the intermission.

Perszyk heated up from the floor in the third period, hitting a pair of three-pointers and scoring eight total points during the quarter.  A Perszyk triple at the 2:40 mark stretched the W&L lead to nine points (45-36), its largest advantage of the game.

Perszyk drained two more triples in the fourth period as the Generals stretched the lead to as many as 11 points en route to snapping a three-game losing streak.

W&L assisted on 16 out of 21 made field goals in the contest.  Perszyk finished 4-of-9 from beyond the arc and added seven rebounds.  Sophomore forward Ailyn Kelly (Clifton, Va. / Centreville) scored 12 points and grabbed eight rebounds, while sophomore forward Emma Redding (Allentown, Pa. / Central Catholic) totaled 12 points, six boards and three assists.  Corvino added nine points and eight rebounds as W&L amassed a 48-32 advantage on the glass.

Junior forward Korin Harris (Brandywine, Md. / Elizabeth Seton) paced the WildCats with 17 points.  Junior guard Jacqueline Hockman (Manassas, VA / Osbourn) chipped in nine points and eight rebounds.

Washington and Lee returns to action on Saturday when it travels to Virginia Wesleyan for a 2:00 pm contest.
