GREENWOOD, Ind. – The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) released its 2014-15 Capital One Academic All-District Women's Basketball squad on Thursday and Washington and Lee junior forward Shelbi Hendricks (Louisville, Ky. / Kentucky Country Day) was selected to the District 5 team in the Division III category.
A business administration and psychology double-major, Hendricks has started 16 games for W&L and pulls in a team-high 7.6 rebounds per game. She also tallies 9.2 points, 1.9 assists and 1.3 steals per contest. Hendricks has recorded five double-doubles this season, and has season-highs of 19 points and 13 rebounds.
Hendricks is the first W&L women's basketball player to receive the honor since Jessica Hunsinger '07 garnered the recognition during the 2005-06 season. Hendricks will move onto the national ballot where she has a chance at earning Academic All-America honors.
The criteria for the Capital One All-District program states that a player must be of sophomore academic standing, be a starter or important reserve and claim a GPA of at least 3.30 on a 4.0 scale. Washington and Lee is a member of District 5, which includes players from small colleges in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, Puerto Rico, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia.
The Generals are currently 14-5 overall and 7-4 in the ODAC. W&L travels to Lynchburg on Saturday for a 2:00 pm contest.
