LEXINGTON, Va. – Guilford held Washington and Lee to just two field goals in the final 10 minutes as the Quakers defeated the Generals, 65-43, in ODAC basketball action on Wednesday night at the Warner Center.
With the Quakers leading, 43-30, at the 14:05 mark, the Generals used a quick 7-0 run capped by a first-year guard Jackie Clifford (Tenafly, N.J. / Tenafly) layup to pull the Blue and White within six points (43-37) with 10:39 left to play.
Guilford (5-1, 1-1) held the Generals to just 2-for-7 (.285) from the floor and forced seven turnovers in the final 10 minutes as it went on a 22-6 run to secure its fourth-consecutive victory over W&L (2-4, 1-2).
The Generals held a two-point lead (15-13) at the 7:04 mark, but the Quakers regained the lead (17-15) after a Kayla Adams (Rural Hall, N.C./North Forsyth) jumper at 6:11 and led by as much as seven as GC took a 30-26 lead at the intermission.
For the game, Guilford limited W&L to 40.9 percent (18-44) shooting from the field, while holding a 35-26 advantage in rebounds.
Sharman led the Generals, notching a career-high 14 points and added three rebounds. Sophomore forwards Wesleigh Vick (Raleigh, N.C. / St. David's School) and Shelbi Hendricks (Louisville, Ky. / Kentucky Country Day) chipped in nine and eight points, respectively. Sophomore Paige Corvino (Clarendon Hills, Ill. / Fenwick) recorded a game-high four steals and dished out three assists.
Junior guard Brittany Drew (Greensboro, N.C./Page) led GC in scoring with 12 points, while Oglesby and senior guard Kayla Adams (Rural Hall, N.C./North Forsyth) recorded 10 points each.
After taking a short break, W&L will return to the court on December 16, when it hosts Averett for a 4:00 pm contest.
