W&L Women's Basketball Drops a 50-34 Loss to Cabrini
SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Washington and Lee shot just 10 percent (2-20) from the field in the first half en route to a 50-34 loss to Cabrini in the opening day of the Swarthmore Tournament on Saturday evening.
The Generals (1-1) scored just four points in the opening 17:04 of the game as the Cavaliers (1-0) jumped out to a 25-4 lead. W&L closed the half on a 7-4 run and trailed 29-11 at the break.
W&L heated up to 34.5 percent (10-29) from the floor in the second stanza, but could get no closer than a 14-point deficit in the final 20 minutes.
Neither team shot better than 30 percent for the game as the Generals finished 12-49 (.245) and Cabrini finished 18-64 (.281).
The Generals were led by first-year guard Alena Hamrick (Roanoke, Va. / Green Briar East), who scored 11 points and grabbed four rebounds. First-year forward Shelbi Hendricks (Louisville, Ky. / Kentucky Country Day) chipped in seven points.
Cabrini was paced by junior guard Brittany Sandone (Harleysville, Pa. / Souderton), who totaled 14 points, and junior forward Colleen Stewart (Scarsdale, N.Y. / Eastchester), who notched 10 points and 11 rebounds.
Washington and Lee will face Chatham College in the consolation game on Sunday at 1:30 pm. Chatham fell to Swarthmore in the other game, 89-53.
