W&L Women's Basketball Picked 12th in ODAC Preseason Poll

FOREST, Va. – The Old Dominion Athletic Conference has released its 2012 Women's Basketball Preseason Poll and Washington and Lee was selected to finish 12th in voting among the league's coaches.

The defending league champion, Guilford, received eight first-place votes and 118 total points to take the top spot in the poll. Eastern Mennonite was tabbed second with the remaining four first-place votes and 114 points, while Virginia Wesleyan (92), Bridgewater (89) and Randolph-Macon (75) wrapped up the Top 5. Lynchburg (70), Hollins (63), Roanoke (56), Emory & Henry (35), Shenandoah (32), Randolph (28) and W&L (20) rounded out the poll results.

The Generals return five players and two starters from the 2011-12 team that went 14-13 overall and 11-9 in conference action. W&L advanced to the ODAC Tournament semifinals, where it fell to Virginia Wesleyan, 60-58.

Senior forwards Rachel Warrick (Herndon, Va./Langley) and Katy Wilson (Chattanooga, Tenn./Baylor) come back as the top two returning scorers from a season ago. Warrick appeared in all 27 games with 26 starts, averaging 8.1 points per game and 4.0 rebounds per game. A 2012 Third Team All-ODAC selection, Wilson tallied 11.8 ppg, 8.8 rpg and seven double-doubles while starting all 27 games.

The Generals' roster will feature 11 members, including five first-years, under the direction of new head coach Christine Clancy.

W&L kicks off its season on Thursday, November 15, when it travels to Roanoke for a 7:00 pm contest.
