SWEET BRIAR, Va. – The Washington and Lee riding team tallied 22 points to finish eighth at the Sweet Briar/Lynchburg College IHSA Invitational on Saturday at the Rogers Riding Center.
The Generals placed in all 12 events and had three Top 3 finishes.
First-year Curry Sherard (Spartanburg, S.C. / Spartanburg Day School) led W&L with a second-place finish in the novice flat and a third-place finish in the intermediate equitation over fences. Senior Jane Chiavelli (Ashland, Mass. / St. Mark's School) placed third in the open equitation over fences, while also taking fifth in the open equitation on the flat.
In the novice equitation over fences, sophomore Charlotte Radcliffe (Lancaster, Pa. / J.P. McCaskey) took fourth, while first-year Mischa Biszick (Pelham, N.Y. / Pelham Memorial) placed fifth. Junior Elise George (Charlotte, N.C. / Charlotte Catholic) finished fourth in the intermediate flat and junior SarahCate Harrison (Tampa, Fla. / Wharton) took fifth in the event. First-year Maggie O'Berry (Virginia Beach, Va. / Norfolk Academy) placed fourth in the walk-trot-canter 2B.
W&L currently ranks seventh in the regional team standings with 83 points. UVA is first with 138 points, while Randolph is second with 136 markers. Hollins (118), Lynchburg (110) and JMU (105) round out the Top 5.
With the end of the fall season, the Generals return to action on February 10 at the Randolph IHSA Invitational.
