Roanoke, Va. – The Washington and Lee equestrian team placed fifth out of 10 teams at the Hollins IHSA Invitational on Saturday.
Bridgewater won the event with a total of 36 points, while UVA placed second with 34 points. Lynchburg finished third with 32 points and Randolph had 31 markers to take fourth. The Generals rounded out the Top 5 with 30 points.
W&L had five Top 3 showings, with sophomore Sarah Walters (Glen Arm, Md. / McDonogh School) and senior Parrish Preston (Nashville, Tenn. / Montgomery Bell Academy) each earning a first-place finish in an event.
Walters won the novice equitation over fences event, earning the necessary points to qualify for regionals in the novice over fences division. Preston took first in the walk-trot-canter 2A.
Junior Jane Chiavelli (Ashland, Mass. / St. Mark's School) earned second-place in the open equation on the flat, while senior Laurel Romano (Milford, Ohio / Saint Ursula Academy) took second in the intermediate flat. In the walk-trot, first-year Lauren Fredericks (Los Gatos, Calif. / Los Gatos) placed third.
The Generals return to action on November 12, when they compete at the Sweet Briar IHSA Invitational.
