W&L Equestrian Competes at IHSA Regionals
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Washington and Lee equestrian team claimed fourth place at the IHSA Zone 4 Regional Championships on Sunday, hosted by University of Virginia.
Bridgewater took the regional team title, finishing the season with 302 points. Sweet Briar was the Reserve Champion with 288 points, Randolph claimed 275 points for third place to sit one spot above the Generals and UVA recorded 207 points to round out the top five. Hollins (195), Lynchburg (188), JMU (183), Radford (93), Liberty (57) and Roanoke (52) wrapped up the team results.
Senior Claire Stevenson (Southampton, N.Y. / St. Paul's School) and sophomore Laura Lemon (Roanoke, Va. / North Cross) led the Generals with a first-place finish in their respective events. Stevenson took home the top spot in the open over fences event, while Lemon won the intermediate on the flat division. With their first-place finishes, both riders will continue on to the Zone Finals on April 6th at Hollins.
Stevenson earned a fourth-place ranking in the Cacchione Individual High Point Rider standings, while Lemon maintained sixth-place.
Senior Maia Robbins (Seattle, Wash. / Lakeside School) recorded two top-five finishes on the day, placing fourth in the intermediate on the flat and fourth in the intermediate over fences. Senior Charlotte Magee (Charlotte, N.C. / Charlotte Latin) also finished in the top five, earning fifth-place in the novice over fences.
W&L returns to action on Thursday, when it competes at the Virginia Intermont Classic/Collegiate Cup.
