W&L Equestrian Finishes Fourth at Randolph/Lynchburg IHSA Invitational

LEXINGTON, Va. – The Washington and Lee equestrian team finished the in fourth place in the Randolph/Lynchburg IHSA Invitational after earning 30 points on Friday afternoon. The Generals gained ground on Randolph and increased their margin over Hollins to maintain fourth place regional standing.

Bridgewater was named Champion with 37 points, while Virginia took Reserve Champion with 32 points. Sweet Briar placed third with 31 points, just one point ahead of the Generals. Randolph (23), Lynchburg (22), Hollins (20), JMU (19), Liberty (13), Roanoke (9) and Radford (5) rounded out the results.

Senior Alexandria Vittitow (Louisville, Ky. / Sacred Heart Academy) led the Generals with a first-place finish in the walk-trot.

W&L had three riders take home second place with sophomore Laura Lemon (Roanoke, Va. / North Cross) placing second in the open over fences, first-year Jenny Lee (Ellicott City, Md. / Centennial) taking second in the walk-trot-canter and senior Shelby Barada (Paget, Bermuda / New Canaan) finishing second in the walk-trot. 

Lemon also placed third in the open on the flat, while senior Claire Stevenson (Southampton, N.Y. / St. Paul's School) tied for third place with Lemon. First-year Zoe Burge (Darien, Conn. / St. Paul's School) also placed third in the novice over fences, while junior Charlotte Magee (Charlotte, N.C. / Charlotte Latin) took home third in the novice flat. 

Senior Maia Robbins (Seattle, Wash. / Lakeside School) picked up a fifth place finish in the intermediate over fences and first-year Laurel Romano (Milford, Ohio / Saint Ursula Academy) placed fourth in the novice over fences.

The Generals will be back in action on Sunday when they compete in the Sweet Briar Invitational.
