W&L Equestrian Takes First at Bridgewater IHSA Invitational

BRIDGEWATER, Va. -- The Washington and Lee equestrian team won four events en route to a first place finish at the Bridgewater IHSA Invitational on Saturday afternoon. The first place finish moved the Generals into fourth place in the region.

W&L recorded 36 points to finish first, while Bridgewater earned 35 points for second place. Randolph (28), James Madison (27), and Virginia (26) rounded out the Top 5. Sweet Briar (25), Lynchburg (24), Radford (15), Roanoke (13), Hollins (13) and Liberty (4) completed the team results.

Junior Charlotte Magee (Charlotte, N.C. / Charlotte Latin) led the Generals with two first-place finishes, taking home the blue ribbon in the novice over fences and the novice on the flat. For her efforts, she was named Reserve High Point Rider.

First-year Caleigh Wells (Calabasas, Calif. / Louisville) also took home a first-place finish in the intermediate over fences, while senior Maia Robbins (Seattle, Wash. / Lakeside School) won the intermediate on the flat. Robbins also placed third in the intermediate over fences.

Senior Claire Stevenson (Southampton, N.Y. / St. Paul's School) had a successful outing, placing fourth in open over fences and third in open on the flat. First-year Laurel Romano (Milford, Ohio / Saint Ursula Academy) took home second place in the novice over fences, while Stephanie Banning (Bothell, Wash. / Henry M. Jackson) placed second in the beginner section of the walk-trot-canter.

In the walk-trot section, senior Alex Vittitow (Louisville, Ky. / Sacred Heart Academy) placed third while senior Shelby Barada (Paget, Bermuda / New Canaan) placed fifth.

The Generals will be back in action on November 16th when they compete in the Sweet Briar IHSA Invitational.
