W&L Equestrian Competes at IHSA Regionals

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Washington and Lee equestrian team claimed sixth place at the IHSA Zone 4 Regional Championships on Sunday, hosted by University of Virginia.

Virginia took the regional team title, finishing the season with 284 total points. Sweet Briar was the Reserve Champion with 270 points, Randolph claimed 261 points for third place, Bridgewater was fourth with 256 points and Hollins recorded 231 points to round out the top five. W&L (230), Lynchburg (207), James Madison (165), Radford (106), Longwood (103), Roanoke (83) and Mary Baldwin (38) wrapped up the team results. 

Senior Molly Rountree (Andover, Mass./Phillips Academy) maintained her fourth-place standing in the Cacchione Cup competition, tying with Maggie McManus from Randolph with 45 points.

Junior Claire Stevenson (Southampton, N.Y./St. Paul's School) and sophomore Megan Shearer (Columbia, Md./Notre Dame Prep) also recorded placing performances on the day. Stevenson took third in the open over fences and Shearer notched a third-place finish in the walk-trot. 

W&L returns to action on Thursday, when it competes at the Virginia Intermont Classic/Collegiate Cup, hosted by the Virginia Horse Center in Lexington.
