LYNCHBURG, Va. -- The Washington and Lee riding team recorded nine points to finish in fifth place out of six teams at the 2012 ODAC Equestrian Championships on Friday at Lynchburg College.
Sweet Briar was named ODAC Champion, posting 16 points on the day. Hollins (15), Randolph (10), Lynchburg (9), W&L (9) and Bridgewater (7) rounded out the pack of six. The tiebreaker between Lynchburg and W&L was determined by combining team scores from both rounds A and B of the equitation over fences.
Along with a fifth-place team finish, first-year Charlotte Keesler (Concord, Mass./Concord-Carlisle Region) received ODAC Rookie of the Year honors and senior Tamara Morse (Bristow, Va./Brentsville) was named the ODAC/Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Keesler and Morse also earned All-ODAC accolades for their performances at the championships.
Keesler posted the highest individual score for the Generals with 80.5 points to take fourth place overall. Morse finished ninth with 77.0 points, junior Molly Rountree (Andover, Mass./Philips Academy) tallied 71.0 points for 14th and sophomore Maia Robbins (Seattle, Wash./Lakeside School) claimed 24th place with 49.75 points.
The Generals will return to action on Saturday when select individuals will compete at the IHSA Zones hosted by Goucher College.
