W&L WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY WINS ODAC TITLE, MEN FINISH FIFTH (10/28)

LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Washington and Lee women's cross country team won its second consecutive Old Dominion Athletic Conference Championship, while the men's squad placed fifth out of seven at the 2000 ODAC Cross Country Championships on Saturday afternoon.

W&L finished with 45 points, which was nine points ahead of second place Lynchburg. Roanoke took home third-place honors with 58 points.

The women's squad placed four runners out of the top 11 finishers. Sophomore Burke Duncan (Oklahoma City, Okla./Casady) and senior Jessica Parrillo (Titusville, N.J./Hopewell Valley Central) paced the Generals with second and third place finishes, respectively, and earned first-team All-ODAC honors. Duncan crossed the tape with a time of 19:26, while Parrillo came in 10 seconds later at 19:36. Senior Kathleen Moroney (Hampton Bays, N.Y./Hampton Bays) finished in eighth place with a time of 20:45. Junior Gretchen Tencza (South Meriden, Conn./Orrville H. Platt) just missed cracking the top 10, finishing 11th at 20:57. Both Moroney and Tencza were named second-team All-ODAC.

The men's team finished in fifth place with a score of 105. Freshman Andy Schorr (Kingwood, Texas/Kingwood) earned first-team All-ODAC honors with his seventh-place finish for a time of 28:25. Junior Ken Jackman (Wyckoff, N.J./Ramapo) was named second-team All-ODAC, finishing 11th with a time of 28:53.

W&L MEN'S AND WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY PLACES FOURTH AT STATE MEET (10/14)

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- The Washington and Lee men's and women's cross country teams were in action on Saturday afternoon at the Virginia State Division III meet hosted by Christopher Newport. Both squads placed fourth out of nine teams.

Leading the way for the men's squad was freshman Andy Schorr (Kingwood, Texas/Kingwood), who earned All-State honors by placing 10th overall (26:43). Junior Ken Jackman (Wyckoff, N.J./Ramapo) finished 21st overall with a time of 27:21, while sophomore David Hicks (Alexandria, Va./West Potomac) placed 24th with a time of 27:33.

On the women's side, senior Jessica Parrillo (Titusville, N.J./Hopewell Valley Central) also earned All-State honors with a fourth place finish. She crossed the tape with a time of 19:04. Junior Gretchen Tencza (South Meriden, Conn./Orville H. Platt) placed 16th with a time of 20:10 and senior Kathleen Moroney (Hampton Bays, N.Y./Hampton Bays) placed 23rd (20:38).

Both squads will be in action again on Oct. 28 as W&L hosts the ODAC Cross Country Championships begining at 11:00 am.

W&L MEN'S AND WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY COMPETES AT DICKINSON INVITE (10/7)

CARLISLE, Pa. -- The Washington and Lee women's cross country team placed 16th of 39, while the men's squad finished 23rd of 39 at the Dickinson Invitational on Saturday afternoon.

The women were paced by sophomore Burke Duncan (Oklahoma City, Okla./Casady School), who finished 27th with a time of 19:44. Senior Jessica Parrillo (Titusville, N.J./Hopewell Valley Central) crossed the tape in 45th place with a time of 20:09.

The men's team was led by freshman Andy Schorr (Kingwood, Texas/Kingwood), who finished at 28:03 in 73rd place, while junior Ken Jackman (Wyckoff, N.J./Ramapo) finished with a time of 28:28.

The two squads will be back in action next Saturday at the Virginia State Meet.

SALEM, Va. -- The Washington and Lee men's and women's cross country teams were in action on Saturday afternoon at the Roanoke Invitational. Both squads placed second out of seven teams.

Leading the way for the women's squad was sophomore Burke Duncan (Oklahoma City, Okla./Casady), who finished second with a time of 19:36. Senior Jessica Parrillo (Titusville, N.J./Hopewell Valley Central) was right behind Duncan, placing third with a time of 20:04, while junior Gretchen Tencza (South Meriden, Conn./Orville H. Platt) placed 13th with a time of 21:35.

On the men's side, freshman Andy Schorr (Kingwood, Texas/Kingwood) placed fifth overall with a time of 27:58. He was followed by sophomore David Hicks (Alexandria, Va./West Potomac), who crossed the tape at 28:47, placing ninth.

Roanoke took the team titles for both the men and women.

Both squads will be in action again next Saturday as they compete in the Dickinson Invitational. The race is set to begin at 10:30 am.

LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Washington and Lee women's cross country team won the W&L Generals Invitational, while the men's cross country team placed second on Saturday afternoon.

Leading the way for the women's squad was sophomore Burke Duncan (Oklahoma City, Okla./Casady) and senior Jessica Parrillo (Titusville, N.J./Hopewell Valley Central). Duncan placed second overall with a time of 19:53. Parrillo crossed the tape in third place at 20:26. Senior Kathleen Moroney (Hampton Bays, N.Y./Hampton Bays) finished fifth with a time of 21:10.

On the men's side, freshman Andy Schorr (Kingwood, Texas/Kingwood) finished fourth with a time of 28:23. Freshman Eric Witt (Portland, Ore./Jesuit) finished in 12th place with a time of 29:11.

Roanoke College took home first place on the men's division.

Junior Ross Bair of Bridgewater College finished first individually in the men's race with a time of 27:08. Senior Casey Smith won the individual honors on the women's side with a time of 18:20.

Both squads return to action on Saturday, September 30 at the Roanoke Invitational.

ANNVILLE, Pa. -- The Washington and Lee men's and women's cross country teams were in action on Saturday afternoon at the Lebanon Valley Invitational. The womenÕs team placed seventh out of 22 teams, while the menÕs team placed 12th out of 19 teams.

Leading the way for the women's squad was sophomore Burke Duncan (Oklahoma City, Okla./Casady), who finished with a time of 20:46. Senior Jessica Parrillo (Titusville, N.J./Hopewell Valley Central) crossed the tape with a time of 21:17, while senior Kathleen Moroney (Hampton Bays, N.Y./Hampton Bays) finished with a time of 21:38.

On the men's side, freshman Andrew Schorr (Kingwood, Texas/Kingwood) led the Generals with a time of 28:57. Freshman Eric Witt (Portland, Ore./Jesuit) finished with a time of 30:29 and senior Zach Usher (East Greenbush, N.Y./Columbia) finished the course with a time of 30:10.

Both squads will be in action again next Saturday as they host the W&L Invitational. The race is set to begin at 10:00 am.
