ELSAH, Ill. — Senior MacKenzye Leroy (Port Jervis, N.Y./Port Jervis) led a trio of Washington and Lee runners with a 134th-place finish out of 279 competitors at the NCAA Division III Men's Cross Country Championship on Saturday at Principia College.
Leroy registered a time of 25:42.30 on the 8k course. Junior Cooper Baird (Fort Worth, Texas/Fort Worth Country Day) took 174th with a time of 25:52.76, and junior Hank Patrick (Baton Rouge, La./University Laboratory School) claimed 221st in 26:16.65.
This marked the second time Leroy has competed at the national meet, as he finished 125th last season. Baird also ran in 2016 and was 226th. This was the first time running at the NCAA Championship for Patrick.
Top-ranked North Central ran away from the rest of the field, claiming the overall team championship with 57 points. Third-ranked Wisconsin-La Crosse was second (196 points), and 11th-ranked Christopher Newport finished third (221 points).
Senior Lau Darin of Wisconsin-Eau Claire was the individual national championship, crossing the finish line in 24:03.59.
This concludes the 2017 season for the men's cross country team.
