OBERLIN, Ohio — Senior Mac Strehler (Moseley, Va./Trinity Episcopal School) finished fifth out of 278 runners at the Oberlin Inter-Regional Rumble to lead the Washington and Lee men's cross country team to a fourth-place finish out of 32 teams on Saturday.
All three of the teams that finished in front of the Generals are ranked in the Top 35. Carnegie Mellon, the 10th-ranked team in the country, won the race with 75 points. Mount Union, ranked 23rd, was second (123 points), and 32nd-ranked Wabash finished third with 138 points. W&L totaled 160 points.
Senior Mason McKinney of Wabash was the top individual on the 8k course with a time of 24:41.30. Strehler finished just over 15 seconds behind him in fifth (24:56.70). Junior MacKenzye Leroy (Port Jervis, N.Y./Port Jervis) placed 28th in 25:28.00.
Senior Phillip Harmon (Roanoke, Va./Patrick Henry) took 32nd with a time of 25:37.60, and senior Ian McDonald (Richmond, Va./Douglas S. Freeman) claimed 47th (25:56.60). Sophomore Cooper Baird (Fort Worth, Texas/Fort Worth Country Day) rounded out of the scoring in 48th in 25:56.60. In the 8k open race, first-year Austin Kinne (Bolingbrook, Ill./Neuqua Valley) finished 10th out of 165 runners in 27:05.90.
The Generals return to action on Saturday, October 29, when they host the ODAC Championship at 10:00 am.
