BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Washington and Lee men's cross country team was in action on Saturday at the Paul Short Run hosted by Lehigh University. The Generals finished 12th out of 45 teams in the 8K Brown Race and were sixth out of the Division III teams participating in the race. All five of the Division III teams that finished in front of W&L are ranked in the Top 35.
Princeton won the Brown meet with 68 points and was followed by Siena in second with 195 points. NYU was the top Division III team in the race, finishing fifth overall with 224 points and the Generals tallied 432 points. The Blue and White did best 33rd-ranked Widener (39th place).
Senior Mac Strehler (Moseley, Va. / Trinity Episcopal School) paced the Generals by finishing 16th out of the 401 runners in the event. He crossed the finish line in 25:03. Junior MacKenzye Leroy (Port Jervis, N.Y. / Port Jervis) was the second W&L runner to cross the finish line, doing so in 25:33 for 55th place.
Sophomore Cooper Baird (Fort Worth, Texas / Fort Worth Country Day) finished in 25:49 for 93rd place and senior Ian McDonald (Richmond, Va. / Douglas S. Freeman) crossed the finish line in 26:08 for 133rd-place. Senior Phillip Harmon (Roanoke, Va. / Patrick Henry) rounded out the scoring in 135th (26:09).
Others competing for the Generals sophomores Alex Dolwick (Apex, N.C. / GRACE Christian School) and Joe Carmody (Clive, Iowa / Dowling Catholic). Dolwick was 192nd with a time of 26:39, and Carmody crossed the line in 27:00 for 233rd.
Washington and Lee returns to action on October 15 when it takes part in the Oberlin Inter-Regional Rumble which begins at 11:00 am.
