HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. — In his first collegiate race, first-year Mac Strehler (Moseley, Va./Trinity Episcopal School) finished fifth at the ODAC Preview Meet hosted by Hampden-Sydney to help pace the Washington and Lee men's cross country team to a second-place finish with 106 points.
Christopher Newport won the meet at 54 points, but the Generals were the top ODAC school in the 11-team event. Guilford finished two points behind W&L with 108 points.
Strehler crossed the finish line in 26:45.60, which was just six seconds off of fourth place. Brian Flynn, unattached, took the top spot at 25:14.80. Senior Kane Thomas (Seattle, Wash./Shorewood) placed eighth with a time of 27:10.90.
Sophomore Jacob Strauss (Great Falls, Mont./Great Falls) was 31st in 28:45.40 and first-year Kevin Good (Franklin, N.J./Pope John XXIII Regional) finished 38th with a time of 29:20.30. First-year Ian McDonald (Richmond, Va./Douglas S. Freeman) rounded out the scoring for the Blue and White in 44th (29:20.30), with classmate Christopher Cardon (White Plains, N.Y./White Plains) finishing one spot behind him in 29:37.60.
The Generals return home next weekend when they host the W&L Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 7, at 11:00 am.
