LEXINGTON, Va. — The Washington and Lee men's cross country team hosted its annual W&L Invitational on Saturday at the Dick Miller Cross Country Course, and took third out of six teams.
St. Mary's College of Maryland claimed the top spot with 44 points, Roanoke finished second with 45 and the Generals ended with 72.
Senior James Grasso (Old Greenwich, Conn./Rye Country Day) was W&L's top runner, coming in 11th at 31:13. First-year Jake Mack (Rancho Santa Fe, Calif./La Jolla Country Day) took 13th with a time of 31:24.
The next three Generals' runners crossed the finish line within 12 seconds of each other. First-year Mark Gensburg (Barrington Hills, Ill./Barrington) placed 19th in 32:06, sophomore Scott Sugden (Circle Pines, Minn./Centennial) finished 20th at 32:09 and first-year Levi Warring (Williamsburg, Va./Lafayette) was 22nd with a time of 32:18.
Senior Dan Swain (Baltimore, Md./Calvert Hall College) of St. Mary's College of Maryland took the top individual spot in the race at 28:57 with Roanoke senior Tim Smith (Roanoke, Va./Cave Spring) finishing second in 29:10.
The Generals take a week off before returning to action at the Doc Jopson Invitational on September 21.
