HARRISONBURG, Va. — The Washington and Lee men's cross country team took third out of 10 schools at the ODAC Preview Meet at the Peakview Course on Friday. Eastern Mennonite hosted the race at the same site that will be used for the ODAC Championship in eight weeks.
The Generals totaled 95 points and had their five best runners finish in the Top 26. Bridgewater won the event with 65 points, and Roanoke took second with 82 points.
Junior captain Kane Thomas (Seattle, Wash./Shorewood) led W&L with a sixth-place finish at 29:44. The next four runners for the Generals all crossed the line between 21st and 26th. Sophomore James Busch (Richmond, Va./St. Christopher's) took 21st with a time of 31:01.
In the first race of his collegiate career, first-year Blake Liebling (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield) finished 23rd at 31:16. The final two scorers for W&L were senior captain James Grasso (Old Greenwich, Conn./Rye Country Day) in 24th (31:17) and sophomore Scott Sugden (Circle Pines, Minn./Centennial) in 26th (31:42).
The Generals return to action next Saturday, September 8, when they host the W&L Invitational. The men's race is slated to begin at 11:00 am.
