Leroy & Sims Break School Records to Lead W&L Men's Track & Field

ELON, N.C. — Sophomore Shep Sims (Charleston, W.Va./Woodberry Forest School) broke the outdoor school record in the pole vault to lead the Washington and Lee men's track and field team on Saturday at the Phoenix Invitational hosted by Elon, and senior MacKenzye Leroy (Port Jervis, N.Y./Port Jervis ) set the outdoor school record in the 5,000m at the Bison Outdoor Classic hosted by Bucknell.  

Highlights From the Meets

  • Sims cleared 4.77m (15'7.75") to finish third overall in the event and set the program record. It broke the previous mark of 4.69m, which was set 30-years ago by Philip Sampson '89 in 1988.
  • Leroy, the only individual competing at Bucknell, placed 25th out of 71 competitors in the seeded 5,000m. He crossed the finish line in 14:43.50, breaking the record of 14:50.45 set by Mac Strehler '17 on March 30, 2017.
  • Junior Drew Pranka (Princeton, Ill./Princeton) just missed setting a school record in the 400m hurdles. He claimed third overall with a new personal-best time of 54.75. Dillon Myers '14 holds the school record at 54.44.
  • Senior Dash Dericks (Waveland, Ind./The American School in Switzerland) took the top spot in the discus with a season-best toss of 47.03m (154'3.00"). He was also second in the javelin at 51.01m (167'4.00").
