Birmingham, Ala. — Senior MacKenzye Leroy (Port Jervis, N.Y./Port Jervis) registered a new career-best in taking ninth in the mile at the NCAA Division III Indoor Men's Track and Field Championship on Saturday at the Birmingham CrossPlex.
Leroy crossed the finish line in 4:12.84 to take ninth. His previous career best in the event was 4:13.65. Leroy's time is the second-fastest by a W&L runner in program history, as he was just behind Ian McDonald's '17 school-record mark of 4:12.07.
Leroy missed earning All-America honors by one spot as the Top 8 finishers in the race garnered those accolades. Senior Jeremy Hernandez of Ramapo claimed the national title in the event with a championship record time of 4:05.95.
The men's track and field team begins the outdoor season on Friday, when the Generals host the W&L Carnival.
