Sims & Leroy Pace W&L Men's Track & Field at Roanoke Final Qualifier

SALEM, Va. — Sophomore Shep Sims (Charleston, W.Va./Woodberry Forest School) broke his own school record in the pole vault, and senior MacKenzye Leroy (Port Jervis, N.Y./Port Jervis) registered a five-second personal best in the mile to lead the Washington and Lee men's track and field team at the Roanoke Maroons NCAA Final Qualifier on Saturday.

Highlights From the Meet

  • Sims finished first in the pole vault, clearing 4.65m (15'3.00"). It bested his previous school record of 4.60m, which he set on February 19.
  • Leroy took second in the mile in a tight race with senior Max Brown of Emory. Brown crossed in first in 4:12.60, and Leroy was right on his heels in 4:13.65. The time improved his career-best mark by over five seconds. It is currently the 19th-fastest time in Division III this season.  
  • Sophomore Donovan Fiore (Gilbert, Ariz./Chandler Prep Academy) won the 400m with a time of 49.82, and junior Drew Pranka (Princeton, Ill./Princeton) took fourth in the 60m hurdles in 8.58.
