LYNCHBURG, Va. — Junior Dash Dericks (Spring, Texas/The American School in Switzerland) broke the school record in the discus to lead the Washington and Lee men's track and field team at the Liberty Twilight Qualifier on Wednesday.
Dericks finished third in the event with a toss of 48.66m (159'8.00"), which broke his own school record of 47.31m (155'2.00"). He set the previous mark on April 1, 2017. In the hammer throw, senior Patrick Robertson (Norfolk, Va./Norfolk Academy) was third at 49.12m (161'02.00").
Senior Jake Roberts (Kansas City, Mo./The Barstow School) claimed 10th in the 800m with a time of 1:57.91, while sophomore Cooper Baird (Fort Worth, Texas/Fort Worth Country Day) placed eighth in the 1,500m with a personal-best time of 3:55.27.
First-year Donovan Fiore (Gilbert, Ariz./Chandler Prep Academy) registered a time of 49.94 in the 400m and 11.29 in the 100m. Sophomore Carter Huffman (Sophia, N.C./South Western Randolph) had a time of 22.88 in the 200m, and first-year Shep Sims (Charleston, W.Va./Woodberry Forest School) cleared 3.99m (13'01.00") in the pole vault.
The Generals next compete at the SWAT Last Chance Meet hosted by Swarthmore on May 15.
