LYNCHBURG, Va. — The Washington and Lee men's track and field team won nine events at the WildCat Invitational hosted by Randolph on Saturday.
The Generals won three of the four throwing events. First-year Jay Roberts (Whitwell, Tenn./McCallie) took first in the shot put with a toss of 13.71m (45'0.00"), and senior Patrick Robertson (Norfolk, Va./Norfolk Academy) claimed second at 13.58m (44'7.00"). Robertson finished first in the hammer throw at 46.76m (153'5.25"), and first-year Andrew Creel (Lynchburg, Va./Brookville) was second at 40.47m (132'9.50").
In the discus, junior Dash Dericks (Spring, Texas/The American School in Switzerland) placed first with a mark of 46.05m (151'1.25"), and senior Rob Jones (Albany, N.Y./Albany Academy) was second in the javelin at 37.89m (124'4.00").
Senior Davis Turner (East Point, Ga./The Howard School) won the high jump with a leap of 1.90m (6'2.75"), while first-year Shep Sims (Charleston, W.Va./Woodberry Forest School) took the top spot in the pole vault with a season-best mark of 4.46m (14'7.50"). In the 400m, senior Jake Roberts (Kansas City, Mo./The Barstow School) crossed the finish line first with a time of 52.12. Sophomore Cooper Baird (Fort Worth, Texas/Fort Worth Country Day) won the 800m with a career-best time of 1:55.98.
Turner was also third in the long jump at 5.91m (19'4.75"), while junior Andrew Kim (Blacksburg, Va./Blacksburg) finished third in the triple jump at 11.40m (37'5.00").
In the 100m and 200m, the Blue and White took second and third in each event. First-year Donovan Fiore (Gilbert, Ariz./Chandler Prep Academy) was second in the 100m (11.32) and the 200m (22.67). Senior Jack Jones (Lookout Mountain, Ga./McCallie School) placed third in the 100m (11.60) and the 200m (22.81).
W&L won the 4x100m relay and the 4x400m relay. The 4x100m relay crossed the finish line in 43.00. The quartet consisted of first-year Jimmie Johnson (Hoover, Ala./Hoover), Fiore, sophomore Carter Huffman (Sophia, N.C./South Western Randolph) and Jack Jones.
The 4x400m relay won with a time of 3:25.88. The foursome consisted of Huffman, Jack Jones, and sophomores Andrew Agrippina (Atlanta, Ga./Holy Spirit Prep) and Albert Del Cristo (Clarksburg, N.J./Notre Dame). In the 110m hurdles, sophomore Drew Pranka (Princeton, Ill./Princeton) took third in 16.82.
The Generals host the the ODAC Championship on Friday and Saturday at Wilson Field.
